🐾Maci presented to the clinic for multiple, relapsing episodes of fever.
Her symptoms included:
-left ear flicking
-change in bark
-vomiting, retching and reduced appetite
-lethargy
After vigorous testing in clinic (including repeat blood tests, laryngeal and ear assessment, chest x-rays, abdominal ultrasound), her signs continued to flare despite a treatment trial. After discussion with Maci’s lovely owners, we decided the next diagnostic test would be a CT scan of her head, neck, chest and abdomen. We were able to arrange this scan to be performed in house as she wasn’t able to travel to Geelong. Insight Mobile Veterinary Diagnostics visited our clinic with their mobile CT machine.
What is a CT scan?
A CT (computerised tomography) scan is a type of diagnostic imaging which uses radiograph techniques to obtain detailed 3D images of the body. CT scans provide images of muscles, organs and bones to help diagnose diseases or injuries. CT scans are able to find abnormalities that regular x-rays can not.
Maci was a star patient and is feeling much better. Her images will be reviewed by a specialist radiologist to determine the cause of her symptoms.
So far we have found that she has:
-left middle ear fluid
-paralysed larynx
-possible previous and mild aspiration -pneumonia
-a retained tooth root that has since been extracted
Well done Maci! 🥰🐶
