💭 Could your pet have Osteoarthritis?
OA can be very painful and just like in humans, it can negatively impact their quality of life, both physically and emotionally. The good news is that by identifying OA early, you and your veterinarian can develop a treatment plan for your cat or dog.

❄️ Winter can be tough on pets, especially older ones. If your pet is finding it harder to get out of bed or showing signs of discomfort or stiffness this Winter, we’re here to help.

Look out for these signs:
- Reluctance to jump into the car, up onto furniture or climb stairs.
- Lowering down slowly to lie down then falling in a heap.
- Slow to get up and walk.
- Slowing down or refusing to continue on long walks.
- Crying or whining during movement.

These signs may be due to aging, injuries, genetics or an underlying medical condition. We can assist with identifying the cause and provide a proactive care plan to enhance their quality of life. Book a consultation with our friendly team. 🐶🐱

Brrrr! Winter is coming and even though your furry friends may have a ‘built-in coat’ it’s still a good idea to be mindful of how you can keep them as warm and comfortable as possible.

Our top 5 winter warmer tips:
🐾🧤 Bring them inside if possible, on chilly days/nights to protect them from the elements.
🐾🧤 For outdoor pets, provide insulated shelter with soft bedding.
🐾🧤 Invest in winter clothing like coats or jumpers, especially for older or short-haired pets.
🐾🧤 Adjust walk times to warmer parts of the day or shorten walks to limit cold exposure.
🐾🧤 Skip the shave! Regular brushing prevents matting without compromising warmth.

Whats not to ❤️ about Echidnas!!

This little guy/girl was brought into us early this week after it was skittled by a car. After some pain relief, a trip to the Taronga wildlife hospital for a full check up, x-rays and observation, it was successfully released back to its home yesterday! 🤩😁🥰

Caring for a senior pet marks a significant stage in every pet parent’s journey. As our furry companions grow older, they change, and their needs evolve too.

🥣 Food & Water: Monitor their eating and drinking and mention any changes to eating habits or weight to our vets as there could be an underlying issue.
🐕 Exercise: Give them regular, gentle exercise and go at your pet’s pace.
😴 Sleeping: Aging cats tend to sleep more. Provide cosy bedding in warm, in a quiet draft-free spot and monitor any changes in sleeping patterns.
🩺 Regular Check-ups: Health exams, including dental checks, are particularly important for senior pets as they are more prone to illness and ailments (every six months is ideal).

If you have any concerns about your senior dog, please book your pet in for an appointment. Our vets can provide advice and treatments to help your dog enjoy their twilight years with comfort and joy. 🐾

Is your pet’s heartworm prevention treatment up to date? 🫀🪱

Heartworm is a serious and potentially fatal disease, transmitted by mosquitoes, that can affect dogs, cats, and other mammals. The good news is that heartworm can be prevented by taking preventative measures, such as regular medication.

Please give us a call to schedule a heartworm screening or to discuss the best heartworm prevention options for your pet.

This weekend, keep your furry friend safe by being very mindful of keeping chocolate away from your pet!

Chocolate coloured dogs = ✅🥰💗
Chocolate given to dogs = 🚫😰💔

Chocolate contains theobromine, a stimulant that is toxic to pets and can cause serious health issues in dogs. It's a good idea to let young children know that their furry friends aren't allowed to share their chocolate eggs to prevent any accidents over the holidays.

👂 Inspect your pet's ears for redness or discharge regularly.
👂 Dry ears thoroughly after baths or swimming to avoid moisture buildup.
👂 Trim excessive ear hair for proper air circulation and to prevent debris buildup.
👂 Use vet-recommended products for cleaning to avoid irritation.
👂 Avoid using cotton swabs in the ear canal to prevent pushing debris further.
