Unfortunately the early bird gets the worm!
After planting oats in late February on just enough moisture, we were then fortunate to get 35mm of rain not long after. This time last week, the crop looked amazing. We received a call (as this was on one of our lease blocks) on Thursday saying we need to check what’s going on with the oats. A quick inspection, and the crop was riddled with Fall Army Worm, and had been decimated in just 4 days. Our agronomist says it’s the first time he has observed it in oats, and now we wait for winter to kill off the grub and replant. More photos in comments
The best Christmas present we could have hoped for! Hopefully all of our clients and friends are receiving a good drop too! Merry Christmas from us all here at Dorroughby and a prosperous New Year to all. We look forward to seeing you all in the New Year.
Possibly our most important day of our pre-sale calendar, our sale bulls heading onto the oats for the first time, 3 weeks earlier than last year. We are stoked with the line up this year, with some old genetics, new genetics, and outcross genetics. Hope to see you here. August 26th, 2023.
