NOTE: The dog in the video below is NOT a Chaleureux French Bulldog
Not many puppy buyers have a good understanding of what Brachycephalic Obstructive Airway Syndrome (BOAS) is.
We are posting this video to raise awareness of this problem and the suffering that BOAS can cause. BOAS in most cases will progressively get worse over time. The exact cause is unknown, however it is known that flat faces, pinched nostrils and thick short necks are high risk factors for developing BOAS.
Unfortunately there is no cure for BOAS, corrective surgery is expensive and sadly a high percentage of dogs do not significantly clinically improve.
Dogs with BOAS suffer, cannot live a normal life and die much sooner than they should.
Breeders can greatly reduce the risk of BOAS developing in their puppies by selecting breeding pairs that do not have BOAS, extreme flat features, pinched nostrils or thick short necks. There are also genetic factors that may increase the risk of BOAS and here in our breeding program we have been incorporating research, genetics and selecting for less extreme features for many years to improve health.
BOAS and breathing problems including snoring are not NORMAL for any dog. BOAS surgery is not a cure, the best way to deal with BOAS is aim to prevent it in the first place with good breeding practices, incorporated with sound research, genetics and clinical assessment including the new Respiratory Functional Grading (RFG) test.
