Professional Gelding Sheath Cleaning & bean removal
🐴 SATURDAY 8 July 🐴 WANGARATTA - BENALLA - SHEPPARTON
PM to book an appointment
Cleaning a gelding's sheath requires more than simply removing the flaky dry sm**ma from a gelding’s p***s when it is extended. The prepuce and sheath accumulate lots of sm**ma and the urethral fossa also needs to have the bean removed.
Using the best quality water soluble, low irritant products to provide a safe and effective clean, ensuring your horse's comfort and health.
NO oils, NO baby oil, NO soap products used. I use a gentle PH neutral gel to loosen the sm**ma and bean. Then rinse thoroughly with clean warm water to flush out any remaining gel and debris.
🐴 Why I dont use oil to clean a gelding's sheath? 🐴
There are several reasons why baby oil and other oil-based products are not be suitable for cleaning the skin and sheath of a gelding, especially in relation to sunburn, dirt attraction, and allergies.
Difficult to wash off - Oil-based products are more challenging to completely wash off compared to water-based cleansers. Oil residue from these products can remain on the skin, causing reactions and trapping dirt and bacteria, which can lead to further skin problems or infections.
Dirt - Oil based products applied to the sheath and skin folds can attract dirt and dust and debris leading to an accumulation within the sheath. This can lead to hygiene issues, increased chance of infections and potential discomfort for your horse.
Allergic reaction - Some horses can be sensitive or allergic to ingredients commonly found in oil-based products. These ingredients can cause skin irritation, itching, rashes, swelling or worse.
Sunburn - Baby oil and other oil based products can have a magnifying affect in the sun. They can potentially intensify the effects of the sun by attracting and focusing sunlight on the skin causing burning and blisters.
