Caught these 2 littles ones today 😁, we all got a little wet during the process but they're now cozy and safe in their foster home 🥰
Now to catch their mama, because she is not getting left behind to have another litter!!
This is just 1 of the many sites we've been asked to help. There are many adults and multiple litters of kittens out there needing our help. We need foster homes that can take on some of these babies and donations to help with TNR'ing the adults. (TNR=spay/neuter, vaccinate and ear tip/chip)
If you are interested in fostering please go on our website and fill out a foster form heartandsoulrescue.ca
If you would like to help with our TNR efforts please etransfer to [email protected] please note your donation is for TNR cats. Thank you!☺️

Kitten season is now in full swing and it is very common to come upon a litter basically anywhere. Kittens rescued early enough stand a very good chance of being socialized and becoming good pets. Although it is tempting to remove a young litter of kittens if you find them, their BEST chance of survival is to stay with mom until they are weaned at 5-6 weeks. There are occasions when the kittens HAVE been abandoned and do need help. How can you tell? Here are some clues that the kittens should be rescued.

• Moms will keep their kittens very clean. Are the kittens dirty or wet?
• A well-fed baby will have a full belly. Can you see ribs, or spine? Are their bellies sunken? Are they crying?
• Are the kittens in danger from traffic, other animals, flooding from rain or other environmental issues?
• Do the kittens appear sick or injured?

If the answer to all those questions is “No” it is best to take a wait and see attitude. Mama cats will leave the babies alone for hours while she hunts. If you leave food for her near the kittens, it may attract predators or she may move the litter to keep them safe. The Mama Cat offers her kittens the absolute best chance for survival, so WAIT and WATCH as long as you can.

People constantly ask why I do what I do when it costs money out of my own pocket. When I have my own indoor cats to tend to.

My answer?

Because somewhere down the line, a human let them down. Either they were dumped off, their parents were dumped off, or their great-grandparents, etc.
Because people may have been feeding them, but nobody bothered to neuter them so that they wouldn’t keep giving birth to kittens who would potentially suffer and die out there.

So that feral kittens would no longer be dropped off at shelters and healthy shelter cats who had been waiting for homes would be euthanized to “make room”.

So that Toms would never have to fight for territory or mates anymore. So that they could live healthier, happier lives. Feral Cat Caregivers are unsung and often misunderstood heroes! You may “think” that we aren’t making a difference in the world because we haven’t won a Nobel Peace Prize or aren’t making six-figure incomes. But to that feral cat, we have changed THEIR entire world. And that’s ALWAYS enough!

We've been very busy so far this year with all our TNR work. We seem to just finish one site and another request comes in to help with another one. We are often working on 2 or 3 sites at the same time because we're trying our best to put a dent in the overpopulation issue in Abbotsford and the surrounding areas. Plus theses cats need our help, so we do all we can when we can.
We just finished at a local site where we fixed Dad, Mama and a 1yr old female from last year's litter. Of course Mama had another litter this year who are now all in foster care, but that was her last litter! Yay! 🎉 Their caretakers are a very sweet couple who love these cats and we're very glad they reached out to us for help.
We are currently working on another site with 12 cats, 5-4wk old kittens plus some newborn babies that we're determined to locate. The 5 kittens are now in foster care and we've fixed half the adults, though many of these are not actually adults, they're only 7/8mths old and already having kittens 😞. We will work until all these cats are fixed and all the kittens are safe in foster care. The caretakers have done a wonderful job of keeping all these cats healthy and safe.
We have a few sites with single cats that have now been spayed/neutered, fixed up and returned. We are always so grateful when people take on cats that are left behind, dumped, feral and/or injured.

Sometimes rescue seems like a never ending battle but if many of us weren't willing to fight in it, can you imagine what would happen to all these little beings 😢. We will always be willing to fight for them.❤️
Thank you for joining us in this fight 🥰
