For anyone looking for a safe place for their birdies to stay while their humans are away, I offer bird boarding services here at the aviary.
I have been offering bird boarding year round since 2016, in addition to the breeding and rescue operations here. There are 4 rooms in in total available for guests, depending on breed and requirements.
FACILITIES...
All rooms have been purpose built for birds, renovations took everything down to the studs, joists and logs. New electrical, new plumbing, new HVAC. Features include...
-Heat pump for AC and heat, electric, no gas furnace.
-Air circulation, 700cfm exhausted through wall to outside from each room.
-Air filtration, commercial air scrubbers in each room near intakes.
-Backup heaters and AC units, 2 for each room
-Backup power, 3 gas generators on standby
-Air quality monitoring, professional detection unit
-Industrial humidifiers for each room if needed -45% humidity goal.
-WIFI smoke and leak detectors.
-WIFI cameras for monitoring.
-Individual cage lighting
I am aware that I went a little overboard on the AC, heat and electrical backups, all having several layers. After the head dome of 2021, the ice storm of 2016/2017 and the storm of the century in 1996, I am taking no chances at all. No matter conditions, heat wave or blizzard, I am prepared even if the power goes out.
RATES...
Boarding is $10 a night for one bird in a cage. There is an additional charge of $3 a night for each additional bird that shares the same cage. For example, a budgie pair sharing a cage would be $13 a night. This includes the cage, breed specific seed and optional chop.
CONDITIONS....
Unfortunately, bird size is somewhat restricted due to cage sizing and the size of the room. I can board finches, canaries, and hookbill parrots up to the size of a ringneck/senegal. Amazons and similar sized birds would have to be used to a cage size of 32x24. Larger birds such as macaws would require special considerations and rates, and might not be able to be accommodated at all times.
I also cannot offer a lot of out of cage time, mostly for safety considerations. It does take time for a flighted bird to get used to a new room and its dimensions. There is also the risk of bitten toes if a bird lands on a cage housing another bird that might not be as friendly, and the risk of cross contamination through contact must be limited as much as possible. I do try to provide as much in cage entertainment and enrichment as possible.
There is also the ever present risk of stress induced illness whenever a parrot changes environments. The increased stress of a move can lower a birds immunity and make them more vulnerable to pre existing conditions that might not presently be noticed. For this reason I do require a signature on a release form. I also cannot house any birds that are ill in any way.
AVAILABILITY AND BOOKING.....
With the size of the room and the number of cages available, availability is not really a problem, although booking in advance during the busiest times are recommended (Christmas Holidays, the first long weekend of the summer, etc). Just send me a message from the main page (not in the comments to this post please, I might not get them in time).
