At Heartland Veterinary Clinic, we want to help you protect your furry family members! 🐶🐱 Many everyday household items can be dangerous to pets. During National Poison Prevention Week, here are 5 common toxins to watch out for:

⚠️ Human Medications – Pain relievers, antidepressants, and heart meds can be toxic to pets, even in small amounts. Store them securely! 💊

⚠️ Certain Foods – Chocolate, grapes, onions, garlic, xylitol (found in sugar-free gum), and alcohol can cause severe illness. Keep treats pet-friendly! ❌🍫

⚠️ Household Cleaners – Bleach, disinfectants, and laundry pods can be harmful if licked or inhaled. Always store them out of reach! 🧼🚫

⚠️ Toxic Plants – Lilies (especially deadly to cats!), sago palms, aloe vera, and pothos can cause serious reactions if ingested. 🪴☠️

⚠️ Rodenticides & Insecticides – Rat poison, ant baits, and some flea/tick treatments can be life-threatening. Use pet-safe alternatives! 🐀🚫

Today is a pretty special day—15 years ago, Dr. Gheorghe (or as his patients lovingly call him, Uncle Gheorghe) became the proud owner of Heartland Veterinary Clinic! 💙 While we may not have an exact date for when he first started, we do know that March 10 marks 15 years since he took over ownership.

🐾 Meet Willow! 🐾

We’d love for you to meet Willow, a sweet husky cross who recently visited Heartland Veterinary Clinic. Her owner, Mike, sent us this heartfelt message, and we’re so grateful to have been a part of Willow’s journey! 💙

📢 Here’s what Mike had to say:

*"Last year, I discovered a strange lump on Willow’s groin. At first, I didn’t think much of it, but after a few months, it had grown from the size of a grape to a grapefruit! That’s when I knew it was time to take her to Heartland Veterinary Clinic.

We saw Dr. Jody, who was amazing—she got right down on the floor to make Willow feel at ease. After examining the lump, she told me she wasn’t sure exactly what it was, but if it were her dog, she’d want it removed. So, we scheduled Willow for surgery three weeks later.

The entire Heartland team was incredible throughout the process. They took great care of Willow and clearly explained her post-surgery care, making it easier for me to help her recover (though keeping her from running up the stairs once she felt better was a challenge!).

As soon as the test results came in, Dr. Jody personally called to let me know that the lump was nothing serious—just a type of wart that had grown unusually large. She also assured me that she had removed it completely.

I can’t thank the Heartland team enough for their kindness, professionalism, and the wonderful care they provided for Willow!"*

Meet Brodie & Bentley—two lovable, cuddly pups who looked perfectly healthy on the outside. But during routine checkups, Dr. Jody heard something unusual with their hearts. After further testing, both brothers were diagnosed with heart disease, just a couple years apart.
