All of the things that drive us crazy in our everyday lives with our dogs . . . barking at the people walking on the street, jumping up on visitors, stealing food from the counter, busting out the open door, doing zoomies around the living room, etc. . . . all of these things can become a major drain on our relationships with our dogs.
A dog’s entire waking day is made up of making choices. Left to their own canine devices they will ultimately not make the best decisions. They will make decisions that are just plain annoying to us or unfortunately sometimes decisions that are dangerous for them, but these decisions seem perfectly appropriate to our dogs.
Because we cannot always be there to guide them in making the correct decisions, it falls on us to help them to reshape their brains so that they can make better decisions for themselves. With this training we shift the responsibility from the handler to the dog. Too many of us micromanage our dog’s behavior. We need to teach them the skills to make the best decisions.

Rookie arrived yesterday for a sleepover and Edison provided a fun welcome back! Rookie, Oscar, Archie, and Frannie all went home today leaving Millie for one more sleepover. Everyone enjoyed the sunshine today after a rainy day yesterday.

What a full Friday! Archie, Franny, Millie, and Oscar all arrived for their weekends stays. Our regular Friday crew of Iris, Otto, Jasper, Monty, Minnie, Virgil, and Winston made it a full house!

We welcomed Storm to her trial daycare before boarding next month. She was pretty timid around everyone but did enjoy sniffing around the Half Acre Haven. Our regular Thursday crew included Iris, Kuri, Nellie, Rio, Kaiju, Spencer, Twig, and Wil. What a fun day!

A busy Wednesday with lots of littles today! Piper went home this morning. Our Wednesday crew included Blaze, Bonny, Iris, Minnie, Millie, Mack, Bowie, Wrigley, Winston, and Winston!! Yup, two Winston’s today!! So much fun was had and the big dogs acted like cows in the Half Acre Haven trimming the grass as they walked around.

Puzzle Dog is all about puzzles and sensory enrichment for dogs, but we are also a Dynamic Dog Practitioner, which means we can help when your dog is struggling behaviourally and it's hard to find out what's the cause of that.

80% of behavioural issues are related to pain or discomfort and sometimes (often due to those behavioural issues) it's really hard for the vet to get to a diagnosis. Your dog might just be to anxious or stressed in the clinic which makes it impossible to do a proper exam.

The Dynamic Dog assessment is for those cases.
It's completely virtual, so stress free for your dog!

We start with an interview where I ask you ALL the questions.
Then you are the one taking lots of photos and videos (be prepared!).

After that it's my turn: I will analyse everything and make a report* for your vet with a short video and marked photos. This report will give your vet the information they need to decide the steps to get to a diagnosis (maybe imaging of some kind or a pain trial or.... that is their decision).

Today I'm starting an assessment with a wonderful dog. Fingers crossed we will find out what is going on for him!

Our Tuesday crew included 4 very adorable Beagles today! Piper is with us for one more night and was joined by Bonny, Iris, Nellie, Rio, Kaiju, and Spencer. Everyone had a good day with friends.

We had a relatively quiet start to the week with several shy or dog-neutral pups today! Bella, Iris, Josie, Virgil, and Winston joined Piper for the day to enjoy some sunshine and fresh air!

Wally went home today and Piper arrived for a short pawcation with us. A quiet weekend in the kennel.

A small group to end our daycare week but lots of fun with Otto, Minnie, Virgil, and Winston. The Half Acre Haven has been enjoyed by everyone!

We welcomed Archie and his little sister Franny for their trial day of daycare prior to boarding with us next week. They hit it off with new friends and settled into the routine well. Our regular crew of Nellie, Kaiju, Rio, Spencer, and Wil had a great day.

Our Wednesday crew was in fine form. Hannah, our special senior, came for the day. Young Iris thought she might like to play but Hannah firmly said no thanks, and Iris went on her way to find Alfie who was a very good playmate. Mack, Bowie, Twig, and Virgil all had fun running in the Half Acre Haven. Minnie loves to dig and she found a perfect place to do that. Bonny was her usual happy chill self, and we think Winston imagines himself as a big cat on the prowl in the Half Acre Haven!

We welcomed a new spotty boy to daycare today! Welcome Buddy! He had lots of nervous energy to start with but he and Iris hit it off and helped each other get rid of some of that energy! Josephine from Misfit Manor was back for the day to hang out and Virgil and Winston rounded out our small group to start the week off!

Minnie went home today but not before have lots of fun running and digging in the Half Acre Haven with Twig and Edison. Maverick is really enjoying the larger space to stretch those long legs!

Maverick is really enjoying his sniffari in the Half-Acre Haven this morning. It’s always interesting to watch how different dogs react to the space. Instead of running and playing, Maverick was super interested in taking his time to sniff everywhere. Sniffing is a naturally calming activity and uses a lot of brain work to process all the information. It’s very enriching for the dogs.

Minnie and Maverick both arrived for their sleepovers to join Twig in the kennel this weekend. Our Friday crew was full of energy and lots of play. What a full and fun day with Emma, Otto, Kuri, Jasper, Monty, Virgil, and Winston. We’re sorry if your dogs are tired enough to sleep in on Saturday morning 😂🐾😍.

Rio and Kaiju’s mom made an upcycled planter (along with two Dahlias) and gifted it to Edison’s Half-Acre Haven. We think it looks wonderful and are very grateful for the addition to our space!

We welcomed Patch and Whiskey to daycare for their trial day before boarding with us. They settled into the routine pretty quickly. Our regular Wednesday crew was Minnie, Mack, Bowie, Russell, Virgil,and Winston. Twig also arrived for her long weekend stay with us.

So much fun despite a drizzly day! The pups are absolutely loving the extra space in the Half-Acre Haven. Our Tuesday crew included Blaze, Iris, Harvest, Nova, Koa, Kaiju, Nellie, and Spencer. Although some of the smaller dogs haven’t yet graduated to the larger space, moving the larger dogs there provides more room for the littles to really run and play in the other kennel yards. Everyone wins!

Today was Howie’s 13th birthday! He celebrated with frens, some puzzle time, walkies in the Half-Acre Haven, a cheeseburger made with raw ground chicken necks, and was sweet enough to pose for a birthday hat picture. Happy birthday to my sweet old man! 🎉🎂🐾
