Skystone Farm

Skystone Farm Skystone Farm is home to horses and their people. We produce horses for sport and we offer a community for people who want to develop their horsemanship.

Skystone Farm is always evolving, always refining our understanding of what makes a good horseman. A blend of classical and contemporary 'english' riding, our backgrounds are in dressage and showjumping. Yet removed from the business of horses where success is measured by the ability to stay away at horse show venues, we choose to stay home, working with and learning from our partners, the Horses

of Skystone. We are amateurs in the true sense of the word, it is not our profession, it is our passion. Occasionally one of our horses graduates and finds new owners who respect and enjoy all that they are and the fruits of our labours to educate and carefully condition them to accept the demands and whims we impose on them.

Thanks Dr Steve at Horizon Equine Veterinary Clinic! Luca was wounded when she reared just as River Bloom was kicking up 😬. With a cream mix by Dr Steve, fabulous foam pads that he provided and masterful wrapping by Paul, 6 weeks later you’d never know she was injured. No proud flesh. Running in her grass paddock. Sound the whole time.

Cobalt doing Cobalt things. He’s an awesome alpha who doesn’t tolerate any horse picking on anyone else in his herd.

Stallions - a whole other beast. But horses respond positively when they are understood and not forced. They love to learn. Joey’s expectation of battle has been replaced with good manners, curiosity and a willingness to participate.

Our son, Dr. Steve Chiasson. When he was 9 yrs old, chatting with me in the kitchen, I asked him what he thought he’d like to be when he grew up. His answer: “Mom! Didn’t you know?! I’m gonna be a vet!” (He now teaches equine acupuncture internationally)

As Dr. Steve put it -- "I hadn't really thought about doing acupuncture too much until finding out about the course. Probably, like a lot of people, I was a...

Almost 3 with a trauma- free start. River Bloom is the daughter of Diamant de Semilly (currently ranked #1 in world breeding stallions) and granddaughter of Harmonie ( #1 indexed mare for 13 consecutive years in the Netherlands. Her dam, Flower, is owned by Suzanne Trickey from Bloomington Farm in Ontario.

First ride for 3 yr old Rocket Man 5Z. No anxious moments. A solid foundation and trauma free start is priceless.

Pretty much.

Pretty much.

Thanks to Sarah Kuz for this meaningful truth. I didn’t write this but I wish I had. So many of us want certain things in our horses that we have yet to master, ourselves…

A few of these sit uncomfortably with me, too.

Sydney was assigned to stop the opponent’s top scorer during the second half. Syd’s Jack Russell focus held her to only 3 pts during that second half. These girls fought so hard!!

Hated yesterday’s video (we need to focus on the bad parts). (Vid1) the day before. Felt good, but I was allowing things to be ok. (Vid2) A very willing horse gives more energy, finds better connection back-to-front and finds his job easier.

Our Story

While preparing our horses for a successful life at their next home, we operate on the principle of “no horse before his time”. Some need more time than others. Our focus is to develop the horses’ ability to be properly prepared and fit for the job asked of them. We don’t push them beyond where they tell us they are comfortable. Our success is measured in the delight of their rider partners beyond our gates.

Skystone Farm is always evolving, always refining our understanding of what makes a good horseman. We enjoy sharing our environment with like-minded people. A blend of classical and contemporary 'English' riding, our backgrounds are in dressage and showjumping. Our commitment is in the love of the horse.
