Things To Do At The Beach with your dog!

• Digging: Dogs love to dig, so why not get down on the ground and show your pup how it’s done? The two of you can dig a few holes together, or you can build a sandcastle while your dog helpfully tromps it down.

• Treasure Hunting: Many beaches are full of little hidden treasures, such as oysters. Together, you might find a great stash to bring home. Teach your dog to sniff them out, then dig for them together.

• Playing Hide and Seek: Do you have another person with you for your beach adventure? Try hide and seek! Your partner can keep your dog’s eyes off you while you hide a toy in the sand, then let loose and encourage your fluffy friend to go hunting and dig it up.

The best part about all that digging is that, at the end of the beach day, you don’t need to worry about the mess you made of the ground. The water will smooth it all out for you.

She came on to work after school, Saturdays and holidays and even though she will be leaving to go to school this September, you might still be lucky enough to catch her on a Saturday! HAPPY INTERNATIONAL DOG DAY!!!!!!!!

The International Dog Day is observed annually on August 26 to honour all dogs – no matter shapes, sizes, age and breeds – and encourage adoption to all those who have yet to find a home and a family forever.
It is a good and symbolic occasion to celebrate man’s best friend and to remember that every dog around the world should deserve a better life: a life of joy, love, protection, care and respect. A special day to raise awareness about dog adoption because if you are looking for a life’s companion, shelters are full of four-legged friends who are waiting for their chance and will bring just happiness to your days.
Today we also want to give special thought to all dogs that are still left behind in many parts of the world because people, government or local authorities do not care. We should remember all dogs killed, abused, mistreated, but also those who live homeless, in suffering with no care and need to be helped and rescued.
This day was created in 2004 by Colleen Paige, a pet and family lifestyle expert and animal advocate who chose to celebrate the day on August 26 as it was the date that her family adopted their first dog ‘Sheltie’ from an animal shelter home.
Since the first celebration in 2004, National Dog Day has grown in popularity and is now celebrated across the world as International Dog Day.
Today choose to celebrate by giving your dog an extra cuddle, but also do not forget the others and help them by volunteering in a shelter, making a donation or consciously adopting your friend forever.
Be sure to spend this day acknowledging how wonderful and valuable dogs are and give them something positive back as they deserve

As temperatures rise, remember to keep your furry friends safe! Here are some essential tips:

🚗 Never leave pets in a parked car: Even a few minutes can be dangerous as temperatures inside can soar quickly.

🐾 Protect those paws: Pavement and asphalt can get extremely hot. If it’s too hot for your hand, it’s too hot for their paws!

🏠 Stay cool: Ensure your pets have access to shade, fresh water, and a cool place to rest.

💦 Hydration is key: Always have water available for your pets, especially during walks or outdoor activities.

7 Things You Can Do to Protect Your Dog in the Summer

Never, ever leave your dog in the car.
Make sure your dog has unlimited access to fresh water.
Make sure your dog has access to shade when outside.
Take walks during the cooler hours of the day.
When walking, try to stay off of hot surfaces (like asphalt) because it can burn your dog’s paws.
If you think it’s hot outside, it’s even hotter for your pet – make sure your pet has a means of cooling off.
Keep your dog free of external parasites (fleas, ticks) and heartworms – consult your veterinarian about the best product for your pet.

As the sun shines and we enjoy outdoor adventures, here are some essential heat safety tips:
🔥 Avoid Strenuous Activity: Avoid any strenuous activity with your pet during heat warnings (especially the short-snouted breeds as they are prone to overheating!). Look out for excessive panting, lethargy, or drooling. If you notice these signs, move your pet to a cooler area right away.
🌊 Stay Hydrated & Shaded: Always carry a portable water bowl to keep your pets refreshed during outings and make sure there’s a shaded spot for your pets to escape the sun’s intense rays.
🚗 Never Leave Pets in Cars: Even for a short time and even with AC on, cars can heat up dangerously fast. Leave your best bud in a safe, cool spot to avoid the risk!
🐾 Protect Those Paws: If it’s too hot for your hand, it’s too hot for their paws! Choose grassy paths to avoid pavements that could burn your pet’s feet, or consider using paw-safe booties.

Did you know that August 15 is Check the Chip Day? It’s the perfect time to ensure your furry friend’s microchip information is up to date, especially since recent studies from PetRadar indicate that lost dogs, cats, and other pets increase by over 50% during the summer months.
The SPCA also estimates that over 1 million pets go missing each year in Canada, and sadly only five out of 100 stray cats without ID will find their way home.
So, what can you do? Microchip your pet! It’s a simple way to keep your buddy safe and improve the chances of a happy reunion if they ever get lost.
