January 24th is National Change a Pet's Life Day.
Use today as an opportunity to positively impact a pets life, whether that's through something small like giving your furry friend extra cuddles, or donating to those in need.

We had a client come in for an ear cleaning after dealing with a reoccurring ear infection for a couple of months. In this swab, we can see some yeast (small dark purple dots) present, along with some skin cells (pale lavender blobs).
Luckily, after cleaning out all the gunk and treating it with some medication, the patient was no longer ear-ritated.
Miss Penny here has diagnosed you as a good boy/girl. She takes payments in the form of treats and cuddles.

Dr. Hawley spayed her very own kitty this morning, and Ember is feeling purr-tty great during her recovery.
She's sporting a medical pet shirt in this picture, which is an alternative to a cone when it comes to preventing female pets from licking their incision sites!
It's important to keep your pet from licking, as it can lead to post-op infections and improper healing of the incision.

Our very special patient Todd and Team would like to wish all the dogs in our lives a happy ! Make sure to take your pup for a walk, play fetch in the park, or just cuddle up on the couch together. As always ensure your dog feels loved, and if your family is thinking about adding a furry family member consider adoption like Todd’s mom did.
These very handsome boys (Locust, Cicada, and Makenzie) received their 3rd round of puppy vaccines and are now good to go for a year!
Their litter has been, by far, the most sassy bunch we've seen at our clinic, but it makes the visits all the more fun.
HAPPY CAT-URDAY! Beautiful Ember was recently in for a wellness exam and first set of vaccines and she did A-MEOW-ZING!
This morning, we had a lovely woman named Deborah come to our clinic, seeking some advice for her cat, Lorax. With her permission, this is her story;
Unfortunately, she was recently displaced from her housing and has been on the streets with Lorax for 3 days. He hadn't gone to the washroom and wasn't drinking very much.
We invited them into our clinic, offered Deborah some water, and gave Lorax some wet food to eat and a litter to use. Within minutes, he made use of the litter box and feasted on his lunch.
We reached out to to help Deborah and Lorax in their difficult situation, and they were able to find a safe space for Lorax and reach out to a shelter to help Deborah. Parachutes For Pets is currently working on finding them a pet-friendly place to stay, so they don't have to be separated for long.
While we waited for the organization to come by, Deborah and Lorax spent their time with us, sharing stories, relaxing, and escaping from the heat.
The housing crisis in Calgary is growing worse and worse, leaving people and their animals in terrible situations. Today, we got to witness it first hand. It's a blessing that there are organizations out there who are doing the work and trying to make a difference.

But, did you know that the calories in treats should be included in your pets overall daily intake?
If your pet gets daily treats, like a dental chew, treats while training, or a puzzle to keep them busy, make sure to subtract the calories from their meals.
Treats should never exceed 10% of the daily intake, and over feeding treats is one of the most common ways pets become overweight.
