Dr Pidge is back with some advice for helping pets adjust to new routines as school starts 🎒🐾
With back-to-school season here, changes in your family’s routine can be tough on your pets. Here are a few tips to help ease the transition:
1️⃣ Gradual Changes: Start adjusting your pet’s routine before school begins. Shift feeding, walking, and playtimes to the new schedule gradually.
2️⃣ Quality Time: Your pet may feel lonely during the day. Set aside quality time in the mornings or evenings for extra cuddles, playtime, or a walk.
3️⃣ Mental Stimulation: Keep your pet entertained with puzzle toys, treat-dispensing games, or window views to keep boredom at bay while everyone is out.
4️⃣ Consistent Routines: Pets thrive on routine. Stick to regular feeding times, exercise schedules, and consistent morning and evening routines.
5️⃣ Training: Reward calm behavior with treats or praise when you return.
With a little preparation, your furry friend can smoothly adjust to the back-to-school changes. 🏫🐕🐈

👨‍⚕️Dr Pidge is worried that some of his fury friends might be in pain without their owner's realising, and is therefore back with some helpful advice🩺
Pets often hide their discomfort, making it crucial to recognise subtle signs of pain. Here are some key indicators to watch for in your furry friends:

🐶 Dogs:
Limping or favoring a leg
Reluctance to move, jump, or climb stairs
Whining, growling, or other unusual vocalizations
Decreased appetite or activity
Excessive licking or chewing at a specific area
Panting or shallow breathing

🐱 Cats:
Hiding more than usual
Hesitation to jump or climb
Changes in grooming (excessive or decreased)
Loss of appetite
Uncharacteristic aggression or avoiding contact
Changes in litter box habits

Early detection of pain can make a big difference in treatment outcomes. If you notice any of these behaviors, don’t hesitate to reach out to us! We’re here to keep your pets comfortable and happy. 💙

🇺🇸📢 Important Update for Pet Owners! 📢🇺🇸

Planning to bring your dog into the US? The CDC has updated its requirements for importing dogs from dog rabies-free or low-risk countries (including Canada). Here are the key changes you need to know:

1. CDC dog import form: Owners must fill out this form and get a valid receipt which is valid for 6 months. This can be done via the CDC website.
2. Health: The dog must appear healthy upon arrival
3. Age: The dog must be at least 6 months old at the time of entry into the US
4. Microchip: They must have a microchip that can be detected with a universal scanner

These regulations are changing constantly. Stay informed and ensure your furry friend meets all the necessary criteria for a safe and happy entry into the US. For more details, visit the CDC website!

🐾🌟Pr Pidge is back with some advice about caring for our senior pets 🌟🐾

As our pets grow older, they need a little extra love and attention to stay healthy and happy. Just like humans, senior pets can experience age-related changes that require special care. Here’s why senior pet care is so important:

Key Points for Senior Pet Care:
1. Regular Check-Ups and blood work: Senior pets should visit the vet more frequently— gold standard would be twice a year. Regular check-ups and blood work help catch potential health issues early, ensuring your pet gets the best care possible. 🩸🩺
2. Nutrition and Diet: Pets nutritional needs change with age, therefore switching your pet to a good quality senior formulated food can help manage weight, joint health, and overall vitality. Check in with us for a specific recommendation for your pet. 🍔
3. Exercise and Mental Stimulation: Keeping your senior pet active is important for maintaining their physical and mental health. Gentle exercises and interactive toys can help keep their minds sharp and bodies strong.🐾
4. Dental Care: Dental health is often overlooked but vital for senior pets. Dental disease can be extremely painful and bacteria in the mouth can severely affect overall health. Regular dental check-ups can allow us to spot issues and fix them before it becomes severe.🦷
5. Comfort and Mobility: As pets age, they might experience arthritis or other mobility issues. If you notice your pet slowing down, or struggling to move or jump as they used to be able to do, then come in for a consult to discuss options for pain care. 🦴

Remember, our senior pets have given us years of unconditional love and joy. Let’s return the favour by giving them the best care in their golden years. 🐶🐱❤️

You may not know this about Dr Pidge, but food is one of his ALL TIME favourite things in life. That means he is EXTRA qualified to give you some helpful information about the importance of a good diet in your pets.

🐾 The Importance of a Good Diet for Your Pets 🐾

Did you know that a balanced diet is crucial for your cat's and dog's health and well-being? Just like humans, our furry friends need the right nutrients to thrive. A proper diet can help prevent health issues, support a strong immune system, and ensure a long, happy life for your beloved pets.

✨ Why a Good Diet Matters:
- Health and Longevity: A complete and balanced diet helps prevent many diseases including DCM (a deadly heart disease), nutritional hyperthyroidism, nutritional osteopathies, obesity and many more.
- Energy and Vitality: Quality nutrition supports energy levels, keeping your pets active and playful.
- Better Digestion: High-quality food aids in digestion, reducing the chances of stomach issues.

Diets like grain free diets and raw food diets have been heavily linked to serious deadly health conditions in our small animal pets, so are best avoided. You can book an appointment with one of our vets if you need any more information about this.

📦 Recommended Brands by the World Small Animal Veterinary Association (WSAVA):
The WSAVA has vetted several pet food brands that meet their global nutrition guidelines. Here are the top picks:

Hill's Science Diet
Royal Canin
Purina Pro Plan
Iams
Eukanuba

These brands undergo rigorous testing and quality control, ensuring they provide balanced and complete nutrition for your pets.

🛒 Choosing the Right Food:

- Look for AAFCO (Association of American Feed Control Officials) certification on the packaging.
- Choose food based on your pet’s life stage (puppy/kitten, adult, senior).
- Consult with our veterinarians to tailor the best diet plan for your pet's specific needs.
A healthy pet is a happy pet! 🐶🐱 If you have any questions about your pet’s diet or need personalized recommendations, don't hesitate to contact us. We're here to help your pets live their healthiest lives!

🎆 We may be excited for the Stampede to start tonight, but remember our pets might not share the same enthusiasm for the noise and excitement 🎆

Here are some tips to keep your furry friends calm and safe during the fireworks over the next couple of weeks:

🐾 Create a Safe Space: Set up a quiet, comfortable area in your home where your pet can retreat to during the fireworks.
🎵 Soothing Sounds: Play calming music or white noise to help drown out the loud bangs.
🌿 Natural Calming Aids: Consider using pheromone diffusers to help reduce anxiety
🚶‍♂️ Exercise Beforehand: Give your pet plenty of exercise earlier in the day to help tire them out.
❤️ Stay Calm and Comforting: Your pet looks to you for cues, so try to remain calm and offer gentle reassurance.

With these simple steps, you can help your pets feel safe and secure during the festivities. If you would like to discuss your pet's anxiety further, don't hesitate to reach out to us!
Enjoy the show, and keep your pets happy and relaxed! 🐶🐱

🐱Meet Crumpet 🐱
Crumpet is diabetic and therefore needs regular blood glucose monitoring to ensure we are giving her the correct amount of insulin to keep her healthy 💉 Unfortunately Crumpet gets very stressed in clinic which therefore gives us falsely high blood glucose levels.
Libre's are tiny sensors which sit just beneath the skin and constantly read blood glucose levels. They can then be scanned by a smartphone app which relays data directly to a vet.
While the Libre device isn't a fit for every patient, our veterinarians may recommend it on a case-by-case basis to enhance your pet’s care. Together, we can ensure your beloved companion lives a happy, healthy life. ❤️
