📸🐶 **Happy National Dog Photography Day!** 🐶📸

Today is the perfect excuse to fill your camera roll with wagging tails, goofy grins, floppy ears, and those irresistible puppy-dog eyes. ❤️

🐾 **Fun Dog Fact:** Dogs don't smile the way humans do...but they *do* make facial expressions that communicate excitement, curiosity, relaxation, and affection. That happy "smile" often means they're relaxed and enjoying the moment...especially if treats are involved! 🍖😄

📷 Want better dog photos?
✨ Get down to their eye level.
🦴 Use a favourite toy or treat to grab their attention.
☀️ Take photos in natural light.
🎉 Be patient—the funniest photos usually happen between the poses!

😂 **Dog Joke:**
What kind of photos do dogs take?

**Paw-traits!** 🐾📸

Now it's your turn!

📷 Share your favourite photo of your dog in the comments. Whether they're striking a majestic pose, covered in mud, snoozing upside down, or caught mid-zoomie, we want to see every adorable face!

🕷️🐾 Tick Check Time! It only takes a minute.

Every walk through tall grass, wooded trails, river pathways, or even neighbourhood parks is a good reason to do a quick tick check...for both you and your dog!

While Alberta has fewer ticks than some parts of Canada, tick populations are growing, and they can hitch a ride on wildlife, migrating birds, and even your clothing. Finding a tick early greatly reduces the chance of disease transmission.

After every adventure:
✔️ Run your hands over your dog's entire body.
✔️ Check around the ears, eyes, lips, neck, collar area, armpits, groin, between the toes, and under the tail.
✔️ Brush through long coats if your dog has thick fur.
✔️ Check yourself, your children, and your clothing before heading indoors.

🐶 Did you know? Ticks don't jump or fly...they simply wait on grass or shrubs with their front legs stretched out, ready to grab onto a passing animal or person. It's called "questing."

The sooner you find and remove a tick, the lower the risk of it transmitting disease.

A one-minute tick check after every walk can save you and your furry friend a whole lot of trouble later. ❤️🐾

💧🐾 **July is Pet Hydration Awareness Month!** 🐾💧

Water does so much more than quench your pet's thirst...it helps regulate body temperature, cushions joints, supports healthy organs, aids digestion, and keeps every cell in the body functioning properly.

Here are **10 hydration tips every pet parent should know:**

💦 **1. Fresh water is a must.** Replace it daily (or more often in hot weather) and wash the bowl to prevent bacteria buildup.

🌡️ **2. Heat increases water needs.** Pets need more water after walks, playtime, and on warm summer days.

🚨 **3. Know the signs of dehydration.** Watch for dry gums, sticky saliva, sunken eyes, lethargy, excessive panting, or loss of skin elasticity.

🍉 **4. Hydration can come from food, too.** Wet food and pet-safe water-rich treats like cucumber or watermelon (seedless and rind removed) can help increase water intake.

🚶 **5. Bring water on every outing.** Don't rely on lakes, puddles, or public bowls.

🚱 **6. Never let your pet drink stagnant water.** Ponds, swamps, puddles, and slow-moving water may contain parasites, bacteria, or harmful blue-green algae.

🥣 **7. Some pets prefer moving water.** A pet fountain can encourage cats and some dogs to drink more.

🏠 **8. Keep multiple water stations.** This is especially helpful in larger homes or for senior pets with mobility issues.

🐕 **9. Too much water isn't always normal.** Drinking significantly more than usual can be a sign of conditions like diabetes, kidney disease, hormone disorders, or medication side effects. If you notice a sudden change, contact your veterinarian.

❤️ **10. Make hydration part of your daily routine.** A quick glance at the water bowl each day can tell you a lot about your pet's health.

🐶 **Fun Fact:** Dogs cool themselves mainly by panting, while cats are much more subtle. Cats often hide signs of dehydration, making it especially important to monitor how much they're drinking.

Healthy pets start with healthy hydration. Here's to a safe, happy, water-filled July! 💙🐾

💬 Tell us...does your pet drink from a bowl, a fountain, or do they insist that your water glass tastes better? 😂

🐱💕 Happy National Kitten Day! 💕🐱

Tiny paws. Tiny meows. Endless zoomies. A surprising talent for climbing curtains. 😹

Kittens may be small, but they're incredibly busy! During their first few months, they're learning how to hunt, play, communicate, and explore the world around them. Every pounce, chase, and toy "attack" is helping them build confidence and important life skills.

🐾 A few kitten tips:
🧶 Encourage play with interactive toys...not fingers or toes.
🏡 Create safe places to climb, scratch, and nap.
🩺 Schedule regular veterinary visits to keep them healthy as they grow.
❤️ Most importantly...spend time with them. Socialization during kittenhood helps shape confident, friendly adult cats.

😹 Kitten Joke:
Why was the kitten sitting on the computer?

Because it wanted to keep an eye on the mouse! 🖱️😂

Whether your kitten is climbing the furniture, chasing invisible bugs, or curled up in your lap, they're guaranteed to make every day a little brighter.

📸 We'd love to see them! Share a photo of your kitten...or your cat back when they were a tiny ball of fluff...in the comments!

💦🐾 Not all water is safe for dogs!

Summer adventures are wonderful, but ponds, sloughs, swamps, lakes, and even puddles can hide hazards that many pet owners don't think about.

Keep an eye out for:
🦠 Blue-green algae (can be deadly, even in small amounts)
🪱 Parasites like Giardia
🦠 Leptospirosis bacteria
🐍 Wildlife and sharp debris hidden below the surface
🌿 Strong currents, deep mud, or tangled weeds
💧 Saltwater, which can make dogs very sick if they drink too much

After every swim:
🐶 Rinse your dog's coat and paws with fresh water.
👂 Dry their ears well to help prevent ear infections.
🚰 Offer clean drinking water so they're less tempted to drink from the lake or pond.

A little caution goes a long way toward keeping summer adventures fun, safe, and tail-wagging! ❤️

Has your dog discovered every puddle within a five-kilometre radius? We know a few professional "mud inspectors!" 😂🐾

☀️🐾 Hot Pavement = Hot Paws!

If the pavement is too hot for your bare hand for 7 seconds, it's too hot for your dog's paws.

Walk during the cooler hours of the morning or evening, stick to grass or shaded paths, and always bring fresh water.

Your dog won't tell you their paws are burning...but they'll definitely appreciate you protecting them. ❤️🐶

Stay cool, stay safe, and enjoy your summer adventures together!

🍁🐾 **Happy Canada Day from the furry, feathered, fluffy, and finned crew at Cork's Critter Care!** 🐾🍁

Today we're celebrating everything that makes Canada amazing...friendly people, beautiful landscapes, wildlife around every corner, and pets who firmly believe the BBQ was organized just for them. 🇨🇦❤️

🐶 Dogs are patrolling the backyard for suspicious squirrels.
🐱 Cats are judging everyone from the best seat in the house.
🐰 Rabbits are busy landscaping the lawn one nibble at a time.
🦜 Birds are providing the neighbourhood soundtrack.
🐹 Guinea pigs are requesting a second salad.
🐠 Fish...well...they're just going with the flow. 😄

🇨🇦 **Canada Day Joke:**

**Why don't beavers ever get lost?** 🦫
**Because they always know how to stick to the dam map!** 😂

Whether you're celebrating with family, friends, or your favourite furry sidekick, we hope your day is filled with laughter, great memories, and plenty of treats (for humans *and* pets!).

If fireworks are part of your evening plans, don't forget to keep your pets safe, secure, and indoors. They'll thank you tomorrow...even if your cat pretends it was their idea all along.

🐣🌷 E.A.S.T.E.R. Pet Edition 🌷🐣

E – Easter treats can be dangerous
Chocolate and xylitol (in candies/gum) are toxic to pets—keep those baskets out of reach!

A – Allergies can flare in spring
Just like us, pets can react to pollen and grasses this time of year—watch for itching, licking, or watery eyes.

S – Spring = shedding season
Warmer weather means coats are changing—regular brushing helps reduce matting and hairballs (especially in cats).

T – Tulips & toxic plants
Many Easter flowers (like tulips and lilies) can be harmful—lilies are especially dangerous for cats.

E – Extra excitement = extra supervision
Visitors, kids, and busy homes can stress pets—make sure they have a quiet, safe space to retreat.

R – Rabbits aren’t just chocolate!
Real rabbits need specialized care—reminder that holiday pets are lifelong commitments, not seasonal gifts 🐇

🐾 From Cork’s Critter Care:
