I don't express a**l glands. When I'm asked to express them the first question I ask is "why does your dog require their a**l glands expressed?" Often the response is "My mom/brother/friend/etc told me they need to be done." This simply just isn't the case.

A**l glands express naturally on their own, if they don't then that is a health concern. Health concerns should always be addressed by a vet and not a groomer.

Groomers are not qualified or trained to properly express a**l glands, which is internally. Of course there are always exceptions such as a vet tech/groomer.

So if you pair squeezing glands externally, which doesn't fully express them, doing it when it's no
t required and doing so at every groom of 6-8 weeks. It's not hard to see why they would become impacted or rupture.

So please, let's leave pup butts alone! 😁

Exciting news neighbors!

We're coming into skunk mating season this week, I mean they didn't send me the exact date they'd be feeling randy but mid-February to mid-April is the season for skunk love.

What does that mean for you? A higher chance of your pup getting skunk maced right in the face when all they want to do is play with their new striped friend.

Please consider keeping peroxide, dawn and baking soda on hand. Your first instinct is to hose your pup down but that water locks in the oils! Blot as much as you can off and apply the paste to absorb it.

I'm going to have some supplies in my bin but I go to bed about as early as your grandma so there's a good chance I'm asleep when these assaults happen. If you can find my house you're welcome to the bounty of medicine cabinet staples but it I suggest having them on hand is easiest.

I'd love to hear where everyone is donating to today in honor of Betty White's 100th Birthday!

Bonus points of you can recommend a rescue that is taking their donations via EMT as my first choice is only accepting credit card or PayPal and GroomTown just isn't set up for that at this time.
