All the dogs love the personal attention, tender, loving care, and the extra one on one affection and love!

In the spirit of caring for our beloved companions, we'll be sharing some of K9 Joe's valuable Tips and Tricks below on how to protect your Puppies and Dogs during extreme weather conditions, especially in the chilly and extremely low temperature and snowy winters that Canada has had very recently.

K9 Joe's Winter Wisdom - Important Tips for Dogs in Extreme Cold Weather!

As winter has blanketed our surroundings with chilly temperatures, it's crucial to pay special attention to our Canine Friends and ensure that they stay safe and comfortable in the extreme cold weather. At K9 Joe's, we care deeply about the well being of your Canine Companions, and we want to share some important tips to help you navigate the Winter season with your four-legged family members.
1. Dress for the Weather: Just like humans, dogs can feel the cold, especially smaller breeds, and those with short coats or less body fat. Consider investing in a cozy Dog sweater or jacket to keep your Pup warm during walks, and some Dogs appreciate booties as well. Make sure their sweater or coat covers their chest and abdomen, and opt for water-resistant materials to shield them from snow and sleet. Make sure to dry them off when coming inside, and remove any wet clothing or harnesses, and let them dry out, as the damp and cold can make them very uncomfortable.

2. Protect Those Paws: Ice, snow, and salt can be harsh on your Dog's paws. Consider using Paw Wax or booties to create a barrier, and prevent irritation. After walks, be sure to wipe and clean their paws to remove any salt or ice-melting chemicals that can be harmful if ingested.

3. Limit Outdoor Time: While dogs often enjoy playing in the snow, it's essential to monitor their time outdoors, especially in extreme cold. Prolonged exposure can lead to frostbite and hypothermia. Keep outdoor activities short and sweet, and be mindful of the wind chill factor.

4. Provide Adequate Shelter: If your dog spends any time outdoors, ensure they have a well insulated and warm shelter. It should be dry, draft-free, and just large enough for them to stand up, turn around, and lie down comfortably. Adding extra bedding, such as straw or blankets, can also help retain heat. However, if it's too cold for you outside, it is also too cold for your Dog!

5. Hydration Matters: Cold weather can be deceptively dehydrating, so make sure that your Dog has access to fresh, unfrozen water at all times. Consider using a heated water bowl to prevent freezing during sub-zero temperatures. Or better yet, bring your Dog inside where it's warm.

6. Adjust the Diet: Dogs burn more calories to stay warm in cold weather, so consider adjusting their food intake accordingly. Consult with your Veterinarian to ensure that your Canine Friend is getting the right balance of nutrients to support their energy needs in the colder weather here in Canada.

7. Be Mindful of Ice: Watch out for frozen bodies of water during walks, as your Dog may not recognize the dangers of thin ice. Keep them on a leash, and avoid areas where ice on lakes and ponds is not guaranteed to be safe. It is also important to have control of your Dog on walks and Dog Jogs in the winter, so that your Dog does not pull you off of your feet when you are walking on icy sidewalks or paths, as this can lead to serious injuries for both of you.

When the temperature drops, it's crucial to prioritize your Dog's wellbeing. By following these tips, you can ensure that your Canine Friend stays happy and healthy throughout the winter season!
