Just before Christmas I learned of Lucy's sudden and unexpected passing. At 4 years old with razor-sharp intelligence, Olympian fitness and a uplifting presence, this was a terrible, unwelcome surprise to everyone who had the privilege of meeting her or being in her company. Lucy's people are devastated! Lucy was a beautiful whippet/border collie cross who was rescued and treasured by Chelsea; returning unequivocal companionship, loyalty and love in abundance....

I recently received the very unwelcome news that Wrigley had lost a fight he was having with bone cancer... a fight that he and his people didn't know that they were in until a week or so before he passed. An unfair, sneaky, dirty fight... as always seems to be the case! Wrigley's people are distraught and in shock. They feel cheated by the sudden, unexpected loss of their beautiful Bernese boy, who had been a much loved member of their family for the best part of a decade....

We nearly didn't meet Angus! We had previously visited Calgary Humane Society and decided to adopt a Chow/Shepherd mix who was going to be called Booch. Prior to Booch being neutered, x-rays revealed some extremely serious hip issues that made him unadoptable at that time! As paperwork had been completed and money had changed hands it was exceptionally agreed that we could see if any other pooch may fit the bill....

Last week I received the unwelcome news that Tucker had passed following a sudden, unforeseen medical emergency. The news was even more unexpected as Tucker was an 8 year old pooch in his prime. The blessing is that everything happened very quickly, that his people were with him when he passed, and that Tucker is now at peace. Now Melba is getting bigger and has discovered her voice, she is taking her expanding dog "duties" very seriously. Noises, smells, sightings, sniffs, viewings, sounds, movements, anticipations, magpies, squirrels, blackbirds... anything and everything needs to know that she is on duty, steely-eyed, ready, willing and able... to woof very loudly... and then run and look for reassurance from her people... !! Don't worry Melba ... being brave takes time !!

Ruby decided to come and see what the Pooch House is all about. After a good nights sleep and a play in the park she decided that she would stay a while. Whilst at the park she practiced her recall... and very good it was too... in spite of Angus trying to put her off by doing his legendary "pin wheel" ninja move ! Well done Ruby... and welcome to the Pooch House !

I was lucky enough to have some assistants with me this morning.... and what a helpful bunch they were ! The pooches appreciated some different faces too...! Riley gave Daisy a good workout ...!! Whilst George and Noah kept Sophie on her toes! Angus preferred sentry duties (and getting toasty in the sunshine)! Well done everyone !!
