With the warmer weather finally here, I want to take the time to remind you to leave your pets at home when it's hot out. They will appreciate being in the A/C and will welcome you home with wagging tails.

Unfortunately, people leaving dogs in hot cars is still very much a thing. GHS has already received a few calls in the last week in regards to dogs being left in vehicles.

With warmer weather here this week, let's spread the message and remind everyone that there is no excuse for a pet to be left unattended in a hot vehicle.

Did you know that in the City of Guelph it is a ticketable offence for owners creating a situation that may cause an animal distress? Anyone who is found to have left a pet unattended in a hot vehicle can be charged under the City of Guelph Animal Control By-law Number (2016)-20122.

If you see an animal left in a vehicle, report it to GHS immediately by calling 519-824-3091, as well as call the police.
