Heidi’s Kitty Haven is a kitten rescue founded in August 2014. We specialize in orphaned or abandoned kittens. We accept kittens up to 6 months old.
Because most of the kitties roam free in the rescue, we are unable to take feral cats or older cats.
We haven taken in healthy and sick kittens, injured kittens, and kittens with certain disabilities.
We are located in Cardinal, Ontario; 1 hour south of Ottawa, 1.25 hours east of Kingston, 1.75 hours west of Montreal, 45 minutes west of Cornwall, and 15 minutes from the Ogdensburg, NY border crossing to the USA.
Kitties adopted from Heidi’s Kitty Haven tend to be very friendly. They come spayed or neutered, up to date vaccinations, rabies vaccination, dewormed, treated for fleas and mites and microchipped.
We highly recommend adopting kittens under 6 month old in twos. Young kittens may become bored easily and become destructive or terrorize your older cats. When they are adopted in pairs, they keep each other company and stay out of trouble and leave your older cats in peace. Besides, it’s very amusing to watch a pair of kittens play together.
Most of the kitties coming into the rescue have or have had upper respiratory infections because they are all rescues from outdoors or hoarding situations. An upper respiratory infection can be caused by the herpes virus or calici virus, both of which remain dormant in their systems unless their are times of stress; a new baby, a new cat, a move, owner leaving for longer periods of time or even loneliness. Both viruses are very contagious to other cats. When adopting a kitten, either through a shelter, breeder, friend or kijiji, it is very highly recommended to have your existing cats vaccinated yearly.
