It’s been a busy week! With rain, freezing rain and snowstorms I’ve been busy clearing pathways and making sure the barn doors can still open! 😂 Plus with all the rain a and the ground still frozen part of the barn is flooding so cleaning out pens to keep them dry for the chickens is a daily occurrence. Now it’s back to -20 so at least no flooding now. Can it just be spring already!?

One of my Icelandic pullets from last years hatch. For the longest time I wasn’t sure if she was a he because she’s had a red comb since she was about 8 weeks old and that’s not super common with this breed. I kept her because I was ‘pretty sure’ she was a pullet and I am happy that I did! She’s so pretty!!

I remember when I got this lady as chick, I just kinda added her to the bunch I got last minute not really knowing what that breed looked like. Goodness am I happy I did! I absolutely love her pencilled feathers! She’s also a nice size hen and calm compared to some others that I have haha!

It was a good day yesterday for eggs!! 13 total which is the most I have gotten in about a month! I have some new layers and can’t wait to see my full rainbow once all the ladies are laying! Come on more sun and spring!

My Sebbies always look the prettiest in the winter! During spring and summer when it’s breeding season they always look a little rough from their broken feathers and then the moult in the early fall. They will hopefully start laying eggs in a couple months and I am actually looking forward having a few goslings again!

Billy Rose is 3!! She is from my very first hatch I ever did when I started with chickens! I remember talking with my husband about what I wanted to do and he supported me on it. So I bought an incubator, did lots of research, built a brooder that went in our basement, bought eggs for hatching and thus started what I can only call my chicken addiction 😉

I have loved watching this pretty lady grow from a baby chick that I hatched in late summer. I was super curious of what she would look like and well I would say she is gorgeous and I just live her little crest! 😍 She is a mix but I am tempted to hatch some more chicks like her this year!

It’s late…and I don’t know how many times I have tried to post this today but Merry Christmas!! With 3 young boys who were super excited this morning the day has been a bit crazy. They are all in bed and the chores are done and dishes can wait until the morning. We had a nice Christmas at home together even if there were a few intense crazy moments, that’s what makes Christmas, Christmas.

I hope everyone of you had an amazing Christmas and I wish you all the happiness and of course more chickens then you can count! 😉

It’s been a while…it’s been busy around here! And with Christmas just a few days away it’s still busy! Haha! We have snow now and the ladies DO NOT like the snow! So they have the big run and their barn/coop to hang out in. On a few nice days before the snow arrived I opened the door for the to free range and they had no interest, probably from the lack of green grass and no bugs or worms to eat lol

It’s so hard to get a true colour pic of eggs! Especially these gorgeous greens and blue. The top one is my F1 Olive Egger that I bred myself this past spring. I am super stoked of how olive green she is laying! The blue is from an Ameraucauna and the light green is an EE. Almost all my ladies have stopped laying except 10-15 of them, and even then they don’t lay every day. I am looking forward to longer days and when they all start laying again in mid-late January. I will be able to see my true plethora of colours 😊

Gotta love Barnyard mix chickens! You never know what colour they will end up being! This lady is from a hatch last year and until this falls’ molt she didn’t have as much orange/light brown through her. Pretty neat to see them change colour!
