How are ya? My name is Emily. Its nice to meet you. Are you here because you love your dog? Yeah, me too. A little bit about me... I am mom to two beautiful, crazy little boys. Did I mention they are crazy? I am wife to a man that always puts his family first, and cares deeply about the environment. I am an autism advocate, coffee lov

er, crazy plant lady, and dog lover! Our family moved to Chilliwack, BC approximately 4 years ago, and we love it! To be immersed in the valley, and its nature is quite spectacular. So back to dogs... When I was working in my early twenties I stumbled across an opportunity to work for a very prominent veterinarian in my community. I had no prior experience, just a passion for helping animals. I did not think I would stand a chance but applied anyways. Why the heck not. He took a chance on me, and boy I am sure glad he did. He hired me to provide nutritional guidance to his patients on which medical based diets, and supplement routines to give their ill dogs and cats. Having no prior experience I buried my head in veterinary texts, did loads of reading, took online courses, and followed the vets around asking questions about everything I could. I probably annoyed the heck out of them. But, I found the work incredibly interesting, and best of all emotionally rewarding. I was with my people! Being able to make recommendations and have patients come back visibly improved made the hard work worth it. While working full time, I also volunteered part time with Pacific Assistance Dogs (PADS). I treasure the time, connections, and memories made there. So fast forward 15 years...AND I STILL HAVE THAT PASSION! I am a firm believer that if you feed your dogs well, you will not only have a happy dog, but you will have a healthy one too. And a healthy pet means less time at the vet. We all know how fast those vet bills can add up! My goal is simple, to provide your dogs with a quality product that is healthy, made from whole foods, locally sourced, is as sustainable as possible, and tastes amazing! Through the years our family has gained, and lost pups. But they always leave paw prints on your heart. So here's to... Major, Major Baron, Gypsy, Tawny, Bailey, Jodie, Eddy, Dolce and Walter. UPDATE...As mentioned before, Rocky suffers from extremely itchy skin. He is on medication (apoquel) to suppress his urge to scratch. He is also a picky little boy when it comes to treats! So we were happy to hear he is enjoying our new Skin and Coat Chookiez. 🐟🫐🥬🐶🐾

Meet Loki! Loki will be taking part in our Skin and Coat Chookiez trials. Loki is a sweet little West Highland Terrier, or Westie for short. Loki is eight years old and has suffered with chronic skin issues since he was a wee pup. Unfortunately for Loki, Westies are prone to major skin issues. In fact, over 60% of Westies have a genetic condition called epidermal dysplasia, or Westie Armadillo Syndrome. This can cause intense itching, redness, swelling, oily discharge, skin/ear infections, and thickening of the skin. Loki’s owners told us that Loki will scratch, and bite himself to the point of bleeding. 🥺 Loki’s owners are very careful about what they feed him. He is currently eating a raw based diet, and gets a fish oil supplement which is awesome! Loki does not get your traditional store bought treats, so we are hoping that our Skin and Coat Chookiez will give Loki some relief, and the chance to enjoy a treat once in awhile. Meet Rocky! Rocky is taking part in our Skin and Coat Chookiez trials. Rocky is an adorable five year old, Pomeranian/Chihuahua cross. Unfortunately, Rocky suffers from chronic itchy skin. His owners have tried to pinpoint the exact cause of his skin issues, but haven’t had much luck. They have tried switching diets, as well as prescribed treatments advised by their veterinarian (prednisone and apoquel). Rocky’s desire to scratch himself can be so bad at times that he will cause balding, and sores. 🥺Both Chihuahua’s and Pomeranians are known for having skin issues such as sebaceous adenitis, hypothyroidism and Cushing’s disease. We cannot wait to see if our Skin and Coat Chookiez can help Rocky get some relief. Stay tuned for updates...🐟🫐🥬🐶🐾

Let’s dive deeper into the topic of sprouted grains. We have had some customers ask us why we choose to use sprouted grain in our treats. Below are just a few of the reasons why we love sprouted grains!

* Sprouted grains are whole grain seeds that are germinated, then harvested just before turning into plants.
*The germination process forces seeds to release enzymes which kick starts the digestive process. This can make it much easier for your dogs digestive system as it has to do less work! It also allows your dog to retain more nutrient value.
*Most grains contain phytic acid which attaches itself to minerals like zinc, iron and calcium making them less available to your dog. Sprouted grains help break down phytic acid so your dog can retain more of these essential minerals.
*Sprouted grain can also increase the level of absorbable vitamins like vitamin E and B.

Skin and Coat Chookiez Trial

Chookiez Homemade Dog Treats is looking for four local participants (Chilliwack) to take part in a trial study of our new Skin and Coat Chookiez. This Chookie features sustainable Canadian sardines, Canadian blueberries and organic baby spinach.

If you choose to take part in the study we will supply you with 2 FREE bags of Skin and Coat Chookiez weekly for approximately two weeks (4 bags total). We ask participants to review the below before contacting us to take part.

We are looking for the following:

*Dogs with skin issues. This could include the following, food allergies, recovery from parasitic treatments that have caused skin damage (fleas, ticks, mange), atopic dermatitis, yeast infections, and side effects from existing immune disorders.

*Trial participants are kindly asked to only use our treats, their dogs everyday kibble/or wet food, and of course lots of fresh water. This is to keep our trial as controlled as possible.

After the two week trial has ended, we ask that you answer the below. Please send your answers to the below questions to [email protected].

Have you noticed:

*Any improvement in skin texture, redness, swelling, odour, flaking, crusting, or discharge?

*Any change in digestion? Quality, and quantity of bowel movements?

*Coat condition? More shine vs a dull coat, coarser vs softer, less vs more shedding?

*Any change in comfort level? Less biting or chewing at extremities, less scratching, licking?
