Cochrane & Area Humane Society

Cochrane & Area Humane Society Meet your new best friend at the Cochrane & Area Humane Society! Dogs receive training and behaviour assistance to make them good canine citizens.
(25)

The Cochrane & Area Humane Society provides food, shelter, medical care and the opportunity for adoption for unwanted, surrendered, lost and unclaimed animals, while promoting responsible pet ownership through educational programs, rural spay/neuter programs and public fundraising events. At the Cochrane & Area Humane Society, homeless animals receive food, shelter, medical care, spay/neuter surge

ry, permanent identification and the chance for adoption into a new home. Lost pets are reunited with their guardians and the Society creates humane education programs to promote responsible pet guardianship. Children participate in Day Camps and victims of domestic violence are helped through the Pet Safe Program. Each year thousands of people call or come through our doors to surrender, adopt, claim lost pets, volunteer, seek advice, training or assistance, utilize our resource centre, attend humane education programs or make donations. We take in approximately 1,100 animals every year and are happy that we are able to successfully place or return home over 90% of them.

Rousey is named after the fearless MMA champion, Ronda Rousey, and she embodies that same spirit (although perhaps it’s more like Rousey - the retirement years). She’s a loyal companion who’s always ready for a snuggle and is happy to spend most of the day snoozing away. Your typical house hippo, Rousey enjoys a variety of dog beds and couches on which she can sprawl out. With her adorable smile and infectious enthusiasm, Rousey proves every day that she’s a champion in her own right!

It’s hard to believe that Stirling has been in our care for 10 months now - swipe to see his intake photo! 🥺

Luckily he has been able to spend much of his time with us in foster care and he’s learned so much along the way. He was a bit of a handful as a pup, but now that he’s older and wiser he’s turning into a pretty easygoing dude! He loves going for runs, bike rides, and playing with other dogs, and after he’s all tuckered out he loves nothing more than hanging out with his people. He’s a very devoted dog who will be your shadow! Kids, horses, cats, Stirling wants to be friends with everyone he meets (including that porcupine he met once...).

Unfortunately, as a pup Stirling was adopted and brought back to the shelter a couple times. It turns out that not everyone is patient with a youngster like him, but we know there is a home out there for him! He is such a happy-go-lucky guy and in the right home he’s going to be an amazing companion. Will you be the one to give Stirling a chance at his forever home? 🏠

Roo’s sweet, playful personality shines through in her curiosity — she’s always exploring, but never straying too far from her loved ones. Whether it’s chasing after a toy, gently pawing for attention, or simply lounging around, Roo’s friendly spirit and loving heart make her the perfect feline friend. We would love to see this sweet girl find a friend, especially with her sister Kanga!

Looking for a running buddy? Maddie has the legs for it! 🏃

Even though Maddie is a year old, she is still a puppy - albeit one with very long legs. She’s been good with dogs, cats, and cows! She loves running and going for nice long walks in the countryside. Maddie is an absolutely gorgeous dog who has quickly stolen the hearts of staff and volunteers. She’ll be a great addition to any loving home!

In our continued effort to have open communication with our supporters, we wanted to share that we have had a case of Panleukopenia in a shelter kitten. This disease is similar to parvovirus in dogs and is easily spread among unvaccinated or vulnerable cats through infected f***l matter. To maintain the highest level of disease management, minimize traffic through the room, and ensure that all of the kittens in our care are healthy, we will be suspending kitten adoptions and closing the kitten room to the public for the next few weeks.

Please reach out to the shelter if you have any questions or concerns. We appreciate your understanding and support!

Hey there, my name is Honey but my close friends call me Hun Bun. My shelter aunties told me I had to write a dating profile, but let’s be honest… I’m really looking for a long term serious commitment. Let me tell you a little bit about myself. I don’t mean to brag, but I’m very sweet, very smart and a total looker! Although I’m a very active gal, I also enjoy curling up on the couch for a good ‘ol fashioned snuggle.

LIKES:

Food (lots of it, my friends tell me I’m a piggy)
Exercise (I have lots of energy and a healthy appetite, I want to keep my girlish figure)
Brain games (cause I’m so darn smart)
Boy dogs (they’re so much fun to play with!)
Training (did I mention how smart I am?)
Snuggles (who doesn’t love them?)
Belly rubs (preferably while snuggling!)
Squeaky toys!!
Kitty cats! For real! They make the nicest friends!

DISLIKES:

Diets (who invented those anyways?)
Girl dogs (we don’t always see eye to eye)
Strangers (it’s not that I don’t like them, I think everyone can be a friend but I do need proper introductions so I don’t feel worried)
When my squeaky toys stop squeaking

If I sound like I might be the gal for you, call me at 403-932-2072 and maybe we can meet up!
