The Cochrane & Area Humane Society provides food, shelter, medical care and the opportunity for adoption for unwanted, surrendered, lost and unclaimed animals, while promoting responsible pet ownership through educational programs, rural spay/neuter programs and public fundraising events. At the Cochrane & Area Humane Society, homeless animals receive food, shelter, medical care, spay/neuter surge
ry, permanent identification and the chance for adoption into a new home. Lost pets are reunited with their guardians and the Society creates humane education programs to promote responsible pet guardianship. Children participate in Day Camps and victims of domestic violence are helped through the Pet Safe Program. Each year thousands of people call or come through our doors to surrender, adopt, claim lost pets, volunteer, seek advice, training or assistance, utilize our resource centre, attend humane education programs or make donations. We take in approximately 1,100 animals every year and are happy that we are able to successfully place or return home over 90% of them.

Thanks to everyone involved, we surpassed our goal to raise $80,000 for the purchase of a much-needed new animal transportation van, and instead raised an impressive $100,000!
It was a very successful event; it was at capacity with sixty donors and friends who enjoyed a fun filled afternoon/evening that included champagne and appetizers on arrival, followed by silent auctions, speeches, a delicious dinner, live auctions, door prizes, and an open bar.
Feedback from this event has been extraordinarily positive with many guests expressing it was the best fundraiser they had ever attended! The atmosphere was that of excitement and generosity throughout the entire event. It was magical being part of such a passionate and devoted group of people, all with the same goal and determination to meet it.

We could not have done the work we do without the incredible support from friends like you and we cannot wait to celebrate with you! This event raises critical funds that support our internal hospital as well as our daily operations. Over the last 26 years, we have supported, healed, rehabilitated, and adopted out thousands of beautiful animals, and supported people in need along the way.
Our Wags & Whiskers fundraiser is an opportunity to mix and mingle with like-hearted people, share stories and celebrate successes. The event will be held at the beautiful Cochrane RancheHouse and will feature a delicious buffet dinner, exciting silent and live auctions and raffle draws. Another happy tail…💗 Puff arrived at the shelter with significant hydrocephalus and a cleft nasal septum. Hydrocephalus, which means fluid on the brain, is a serious condition and can impact sight, hearing, and brain function. ❤️🩹 We all fell in love with Puff’s endearing personality right away and wanted to give her a chance, so we sent her to an experienced foster home that could monitor her. Despite her guarded prognosis and the challenges she faced, Puff tackled each day with curiosity. Against all odd she thrived and grew bigger and stronger. She loves playing, spending time with her people, and making biscuits! 🐾 We are thrilled to report that Puff’s foster home fell in love with her and decided to adopt her. Riker arrived at the shelter with an open wound on his chest, and despite attempts to close the wound and courses of antibiotics, it would not heal. With further diagnostics it was found that his sternum was shattered and infected, likely from a high-impact injury to his chest. It would require a very specialized open-chest surgery to remove this infected bone, and the prognosis was guarded. 💔 After successfully making it through a major surgery at Western Vet and a month of post-op care, Riker was healed and give the all-clear! He was able to resume normal activities with the help of a special Kevlar plated vest to protect his chest wall from impact. He was sure excited about being off crate rest, as this “mini Malinois” looking pup has boundless energy and is super smart. 🐾 Riker loves other dogs, adores his people, does well with dog-savvy cats, and is very eager to learn. ⚠️Warning: Sensitive Images ⚠️ Max arrived at the shelter after being attacked by a pack of dogs, with bite wounds and punctures all over his abdomen, neck, and legs. He had deep bruising over much of his body and was in severe shock when he arrived due to significant blood loss. This sweet boy had such serious injuries that we weren’t sure if he was going to make it. ❤️🩹 It took weeks of recovery, but his wounds have healed up and he is has started growing his fur back. He also regained enough strength to have another surgery - his eye needed to be removed due to a genetic condition. He has been spending time in foster care and his foster mom has so many great things to say about him. Marvin arrived during the cold snap with severe frostbite to his ears and tail, bite wounds on his neck, and a broken front leg. Despite our best efforts to save his leg, it ultimately needed amputation. Now this super sweet boy is all healed up and ready for adoption!
