Cochrane & Area Humane Society

Cochrane & Area Humane Society Meet your new best friend at the Cochrane & Area Humane Society! Dogs receive training and behaviour assistance to make them good canine citizens.

The Cochrane & Area Humane Society provides food, shelter, medical care and the opportunity for adoption for unwanted, surrendered, lost and unclaimed animals, while promoting responsible pet ownership through educational programs, rural spay/neuter programs and public fundraising events. At the Cochrane & Area Humane Society, homeless animals receive food, shelter, medical care, spay/neuter surge

ry, permanent identification and the chance for adoption into a new home. Lost pets are reunited with their guardians and the Society creates humane education programs to promote responsible pet guardianship. Children participate in Day Camps and victims of domestic violence are helped through the Pet Safe Program. Each year thousands of people call or come through our doors to surrender, adopt, claim lost pets, volunteer, seek advice, training or assistance, utilize our resource centre, attend humane education programs or make donations. We take in approximately 1,100 animals every year and are happy that we are able to successfully place or return home over 90% of them.

Meet Jax!
He’s smart, loyal, and loves adventures…but somehow, he’s still waiting for his forever family!

Jax shines when he’s exploring, tagging along on outings, or just hanging out with his humans. He’s learning the ropes of basic obedience and would thrive in an active home that keeps him engaged and included.

Could 2026 be the year Jax finally finds his people?

Meet Spanner!
Spanner is a professional snuggle bug with a heart as warm as her purr. When it’s time to get work done, Spanner is always ready to “help” by planting herself squarely on the keyboard, supervising every keystroke (and occasionally adding a few of her own). Equal parts cozy companion and productivity obstacle, Spanner believes the best work happens with cuddles, naps, and lots of attention preferably all at once.

A little birdie told us you were in the market for an 80-pound lap dog, and luckily, we have just the George for you! Thinking he’s truly the size of a mouse, George awkwardly skates through life with the confidence of a wet tissue. He’s not quite the dog that wants to go on big city adventures and visit busy places, but he IS the dog who loves a romantic walk on the beach, playing at home with his people or animal friends (dog AND cat) and of course a nice long snuggle. Our big boy is the perfect dog for someone who likes to go on a nice hike before hanging out on the couch and watching rom-coms. He can be a bit unsure about new people (much like everything in the world), but once you take him out for dinner, be prepared for an abundance of love and affection. If you can be a brave and reliable partner, our obedient crate and house-trained boy is ready to offer you the world. There is never a dull moment with George.

Due to his size, George does best around older teens or adults – horse zoomies can be a bit much for the little ones. If you’re serious about a long-term cuddle bug commitment, George’s number is (403) 932-2072 ext.113 and you can reach him now!

Meet Rousey 💛
This sweet gal is a total love bug! She’s your perfect “house hippo,” though she enjoys a little outdoor adventure each day.
She’ll always find the comfiest spots to nap. 💤
Rousey is a senior with a few daily medical needs and has been with us for over 460 days, the longest-term resident in our care.
Let’s help her find a cozy forever home for her golden years!
