I’m interrupting this regular program to announce that we’re now ready to share our new K9 Dock Diving Pool with you!

Swimming has been instrumental in helping Bee-Line make her way back to her competition body for Agility! We’ve been training, swimming and then walking the beautiful property! It’s paradise!

It’s also been making a huge difference in the fitness and mobility of my 13 year old BC, Grand Slam!

Our 40 foot, salt water pool can be entered by long sprint & leap off the dock or by using our 2 non-slip ramps for easy access.

Individual Rentals and both “Learn to Swim” or “Dock Diving” privates are available! We also have a 4 week Swim/Dock program starting in September!

To learn more about our Pool, contact our McCann Dogs office team! 905-659-1888

Happy Swimming!

We’re working on what classes to offer at our October 27 trial to complete our premium. Would like to get a general sense of the level of competitor attending.

We are also toying with the idea of adding a fun run at the beginning or end of the day. Perhaps a fundraiser towards a local charity.

Please comment with the following options below to let us know if you plan on attending our trial and what level you’re competing at!

1. Attending! Beginner/novice.
2. Attending! Senior/champion.
3. Not able to attend.

Look who’s back in action! 🐝 🇨🇦

Bee-line got her 8 week post op X-ray a few weeks ago and it showed that her toe is FULLY HEALED 😍

The surgeon and vet team have been absolutely amazing through this process. My vet Dr. Paula (Troy Vet) has been my guiding light through this process. Dr. John (Caledon Vet) did an immaculate surgery for Bee! I’m grateful that they trusted me to keep her safe without the use of a cast or splint. This means she’s had very minimal muscle atrophy and a healthy amount of movement through this process. This has been instrumental in being able to get her back into competition shape!

We haven’t started full on training yet as I want to ensure she’s fit & ready, but so far she’s been swimming, hiking, doing fitness exercises and some jump skills and has had zero issues! She’s so happy!!!

I can’t describe how badly I want to get back out there with her!

Thanks to so many of you who have been checking on our process regularly. Your support means so much!

🇧🇪…. We’re gunning for you! 🦿

This weekend has been a great progress marker for the baby dog! We can do so much more together than the last time we competed! We’re still not ready to take all the training wheels off in competition setting, but, boy oh boy, is it gonna be even more fun when we do!

Looking forward to day 2!

Always grateful for PHD Dog Sports for hosting these trials and giving us the opportunity to train on international style courses here in Ontario! And of course to the McCann Dogs Agility crew for making competition seem like you’re just hanging out with your friends for a day! 🩵

The confirmation details for our Big Bucks Biathlon event this Saturday, July 6 has been released!

Check out July 6 - Big Bucks Biathlon - Bee-Line AWC Fundraiser

I have selected a really fun Agility and Jumpers course from Rene Blank. He is one of the judges at the upcoming AWC in Belgium.

The event will be from 9:30 am to 12:30 pm.

There is still space to enter your dog for those dogs & handler teams interested in running international-level courses.

If you want to come hang out for the day, see some great agility, listen to some music and have some laughs - I NEED VOLUNTEERS to help so that the handlers can solely focus on their dogs.

Contact me if you're interested in helping (no experience needed) via FB messenger.

What a fun Canada 🇨🇦 Day spending time out in Bowmanville, ON at Dogs On Campus for an UKI Agility Trial. Cindy & crew did a wonderful job putting on this event!

My goal for the day was to continue getting my youngster, 5-Alive some experience in the ring. We are much further along in our training since the last time I trialed him, so it was kinda fun being able to put more together.

In the Agility round we ran NFC (not for competition) and focused on rewarding in the ring and letting him see different equipment. This is actually the first time he’s done agility outside 😂 We’re ALMOST done our dog walk and teeter training, so it was nice to let him get his feet on new equipment where he could be successful.

The rest of day we ran on courses that included all the obstacles he’s familiar with, so we ran “for realsies”. While we didn’t get any qualifying runs, I’m so happy with how we did. Just one little mistake in each run (and all my fault), but overall we looked like teammates out there! That’s all you can wish for at this stage in the journey!

He’s such a delightful guy. He’s listens so well and tries to do all the things I ask of him! I can’t wait to continue gaining more experience together.

Special thanks to LB for filming my rounds. Love her commentary ◡̈

A little Bee 🐝 update 😊

Today marks the end of 3 full weeks of complete rest after surgery. Week 4 brings the opportunity to start some short leash walks while continuing to be very careful with her toe. I think we’re both looking forward to being able to do SOMETHING together, even if it’s for 5 minutes. 🙌🏼

Bee has been extremely patient & calm during this time, which has allowed her to have more time out of the crate. I think this has been especially helpful for her brain! That being said, she’s bored 🫠. She’s definitely used to more action, but we’re plugging along carefully to ensure everything heals correctly.

I’m very grateful to everyone who has supported us through this healing journey. We’ve got access to great help and I’m feeling optimistic about her ability to recover.

Thanks to everyone who’s thinking of us and asking about her 💛

My 2024 WAO Experience.

I've tried writing this post a few times but have struggled to find the words. Our experience at the WAO this year was mostly fantastic. However, it ended very unexpectedly.

During the Gamble Finals on Saturday night, Bee-Line made a misstep on the teeter-totter. Her front right paw slipped off and got crushed under the board as it hit the ground. I was doing a blind cross at the time and didn't see it happen. I don't know how, but she continued to finish the course. The teeter board cut her leg very deeply, so we had to rush to emergency in a nearby town to get it stitched and to get X-rays. Sadly, they confirmed that she had also broken one of her toes. I'll spare you the details, but the following days were terrifying and stressful. The doctors/vets in the Netherlands were excellent, but we decided to get home as quickly as possible. Thankfully, we were able to get her surgery within 24 hours of being home. She is doing really well, but we're both still recovering from the shock and stress of it all. The surgery went as well as it could have, and she is expected to recover fully.

The last week or so has been challenging, but I don't want it to overshadow our amazing time at the WAO before the accident. Bee and I started a little rough earlier in the week, but we got better and better as the days went on. By Saturday, we had really found our groove. Of the 8 courses we got to run, she had 3 clean rounds and earned 1st place in all of them. Some of the other runs had a few errors, so the results could have been better on paper, but 99% of it was spectacular. Running a dog at her speed is a real challenge, but she is such a thrill! Bee pushes me to run boldly, to trust her skills and my handling choices.

We won Snooker, which gave us the privilege of running last in the Gamble Finals. Running in the packed arena with all the competitive energy is so fun. (I had a smoke' n plan, too!) We also won Team Standard 2 and Team Jumpers 2. These wins helped move Team Canada from 14th up to 8th and into the Relay Finals. Unfortunately, I missed out on running finals for Team Relay and Biathlon, but our team did us proud, finishing 7th overall!

I've said this before, but the WAO Team Canada is always one of my favorites. The camaraderie and support of each other at this event is unmatched. Whether we're discussing courses, performing ridiculous cheers, or providing a well-needed hug, everyone has each other's backs. I was particularly grateful for the support of my Team after Bee got hurt.

Our team leaders, Angela Koop and Nickie Ciochetti, did a fantastic job organizing and keeping everyone feeling positive and ready to take on the day's challenges. Coach Andre Landry's vibe was a perfect match for me. He kept me laughing and feeling confident before entering the rings. We compared heart rates a few times before the runs, and post-runs, I almost gave him a few heart attacks. They were a fantastic trio!

Special thanks to Andre and Angela, who kept me together at the airport to come home. I was SO grateful you were there by my side!

Our healthcare team did a great job, as always. Carrie Smith and Carly Tweedle ensured Bee and I were running well! Thanks to our team vet, Dagmar Schouten, for helping me SO much with Bee's situation. You're truly a saint!

My travel partners—Morgan, Jordan, and Linda— what a blast! There are always so many laughs, crazy traveling adventures, and excellent dog-training discussions. These 3 were by my side every step of the way when Bee got hurt. They spent over 7 hours with me at the emergency! Tired, dirty, and hungry - they supported me all the way (Although I thought it would be death by bike there for a moment). I can't thank you enough for being there when I really needed you.

These events require a lot of support from home (well, they do for me, LOL). I have an entire posse of people who are always a text away. I'm so grateful for my friends and family. I REALLY needed them on this trip.

The last person I want to thank is my Vet, Dr. Paula Dupuy. She's my literal Hero, superwoman, and angel lady! She helped me immensely while I was overseas, organized Bee's surgery for when I got back, and talked me off a ledge with her calm and confident demeanour. Gah, I have so much love and admiration for you!

Sorry, this is long-winded. It's essential to acknowledge those who help you in times of need. I've been struggling to understand why these awful things keep happening to us. First covid, then Lyme disease, measuring thing, and now a broken toe. It's hard to maintain a positive outlook. But what doesn’t kill you, makes you stronger. I've learned through this experience I am strong! The next few months will look different than I expected, but we'll get there.

Here are some of our best runs at the WAO!
(I did not include the gamble run as it's tough to watch)

This week has been a struggle so far. Can’t quite put my finger on why. I was reminded of a valuable lesson this morning when I didn’t trust my gut on a handling choice and then exactly what I thought would happen…..happened. I should have trusted my dogs skill and my handling ability. I didn’t and it cost me an elimination on Pent Jumpers Round 1.

We had to quickly recover because I had to run Snooker RIGHT away after. We ended up running a completely different plan than we initially walked based on how everyone else was doing. I knew I had to do the current 1st place plan - but do it the FASTEST. Luckily, Bee and I were totally in sync and we pulled out a first place 🥇 finish. She was a ⭐️

We finished with Pent Agility Round 2. I felt great going in. It was absolutely perfect until it wasn’t (on the 3rd last obstacle). Ugh this sport is so disheartening sometimes. Sadly this means I will no longer get to run any of the Pentathlon rounds. I did run this one with full confidence and trust in my dog, so I’m holding on to that.

Tomorrow we have Biathlon Jumpers (Round 1). Dark & early in the morning……. I walk at 7am (NL time) and run at 8:00am. Then I guess I’ll be the team cheer captain for the rest of the day. 🤷🏼‍♀️ Gotta focus on something! We have some super stellar dogs on our team this year, so I’m looking forward to seeing how it plays out!

This sport is so full of ups and downs. I just wish I could have put it together for Pent! It’s one of my favorite events.

It’s not over for me yet!. I’ll be running last in the GAMBLE FINALS on Saturday night. So I better get my game face on for that! 😇. And I get a fresh start in Biathlon. Pray to the course design gods for me tomorrow!!!

Recap of Day 1 (Team Agility) - today was not our best work. Bee was BUZZING 🫨and we were not in the same page. The entry process to the ring doesn’t allow for my typical pre-run routine to help calm her mind, so tomorrow we’re trying some new tactics. I’m sad because I felt soooo good about the course. It was definitely something we could do. Running in a big arena with the energy and atmosphere of the crowd is very different than home. The pressure of team is also hard because you want to do your best for everyone! But this energy is exactly why we came - it’s incredible.

So tomorrow, we’ll try to be the connected partners I know we can bee…. 😉 see what I did there?

We made it! It’s been a wonderful few days getting settled here in the Netherlands. I just love this place!

Today was the first day of Team Canada things. We started with a fantastic welcome lunch and then met at the venue for our first unofficial team practice!

Practice went very well, Bee was very comfy on the new equipment but the footing was very different than what we’re used to. The sand/dirt was quite deep for the both of us, so luckily we get another crack at it tomorrow before the competition starts.

Surprisingly it’s been SO HOT here! I think we’re in for some rain later in the week so I’m trying to enjoy the sun while we have it!

Bee is such a great travel mate. She’s taking everything in stride. I can’t wait for the upcoming week!

Things officially start Wednesday afternoon!
