Today we confirmed a 2025 foal between first time mom My Little Blackburn and Hollywood Lena’s Too. Hopefully little one stays put and we get to welcome it mid/end April 2025. Foal is 6 panel clean and will be 98% foundation bred

We are totally in love with our Buckskin filly sired by Hollywoods Lena Too out of RR Sonitas San Dee. She checks all the boxes and with minimal white markings. Just the way we like them. Currently this filly is NFS

RR Sonitas San Dee should foal very soon! She’s not a happy girl today, very uncomfortable, lots of wax. My guess in the next 24 hours we’ll have a baby!! She’s bred to Hollywoods Lena Too. This is a cross we repeatedly produce for a reason. They are absolutely fantastic- well built, athletic, love to work and intelligent. Were always excited for this cross.

We’re definitely excited for this 2025 cross. My Little Blackburn ( who’s not so little anymore ) is being bred to Hollywoods Lena Too. Today she was prepped to go to the breeding pen and Hollywoods Lena Too was a total gentleman with her. Maiden mares can be tricky and this mare was amazing to deal with, like always. Can’t wait till we can scan and check for a successful breeding 🤞🏻🤞🏻

Our first foal of 2024. We kicked the season off with a beautiful bay c**t. Our first foal by our stallion Poco Tejanos Way. Mare is RR Zippy Poco Jaz. This is a very well built boy, love the substance he has to his legs.

Flying Miss is in ahead of schedule. Her “due date” isn’t for a couple weeks yet. Normally she’s a mare who follows all the rules. This year her body is telling us a different story. Better safe than sorry. Hopefully little one stays put for a couple days yet. Weather isn’t the greatest right now. She’ll be cozy in the barn at night for the next while.

With everyone asking I figured I’d share the system we use on our mares. Breeder Alert is the company we decided to go with a number of years ago. We did lots of research. With this set up it’s completely noninvasive to the mare, other then wearing a halter, unlike some that you suture directly to the mare’s v***a. It does have its faults. If it’s on a mare who likes to lay flat out at times you will get the odd “false alarm” The system works for us and we would be lost without it. The costumer service is absolutely wonderful with this company. We highly recommend them.

First mare is penned up with a monitor on. She rarely goes past 335 days. She’s currently at 332.
RR Zippy Poco Jaz, daughter of Jaz Poco Silverado. She’s bred to Poco Tejanos Way for our first foal by him and first for our 2024 season. Definitely excited for this baby!

This spring two of our up and coming mares, who are now 4 years old will be bred for their first foals in 2025. We like to wait till mares are 4/5 years old before we breed them for the first time. They have spent the past couple years learning and working their minds. Lots of ground work and putting first rides on them. They are extremely well minded and willing, just what we like. They are built exactly how we like them - solid bone, lots of substance, 15hh and very correct and balanced. I’m definitely excited to see what they pass onto their foals! We just have to decide which stud to cross them with.

First is RR Sliding In Classy. 95% foundation Grullo mare, daughter of RR Dun It Classy and the mare Slide On Command, daughter of Lena’s Wright On. Full siblings to this mare are money earners in roping, ranch rodeo competition, reining and even barrels. They are also amazing working ranch horses. This cross truly checks all the boxes for the type of horse we want to produce. Very proud to have this young mare that we retained. Her dam is now retired from breeding.

Next is My Little Blackburn, 99% foundation Grullo mare. A daughter of SR My Poco Blackburn. A 25% Poco Ojos Grande, bred stud, a son of Poco Process. Her dam is a solid Blackburn bred mare, so many Blackburn bred horses make up her solid pedigree. She’s a granddaughter of Forty’s Last Chance. - Proven producer of AQHA performance ROM offspring. We absolutely love the mindset on the Blackburn bred horses. My Little Blackburn definitely has that quality.

These 2 girls are definitely scruffy coming in from being turned out to pasture for the winter. We’ll be getting them cleaned up and getting some proper pictures of them later this spring.

In the spring our herd of horses makes some big shifts. Today was turnout day for the yearling fillies. RR Danny’s Blue Girl, our keeper filly, and RR Lena’s Skip Too, our only available yearling. Big changes for them today finding their new spots in the main herd.

We also separated and brought in all the moms to be. Foals should start arriving within the next couple weeks. Stay tuned!

Decided to update our cover photo. Showing some of our horses that are doing exactly what they’re bred to do ❤️ We couldn’t be more proud. It was tricky to pick only six pictures. Whether it’s working cattle, roping, reining or barrels, our horses are proving themselves in many areas. Showing the true versatility of the foundation bred quarter horses. Thank you to all the amazing people who have chosen horses from our program over the years.

Spring is here. Currently our yearlings are all brushing up on their knowledge before getting turned out for the spring. Soon we’ll be busy with our mares and foals. Learning to stand tied after ground work is the best way for everything to settle in.

Daneka has been a client of ours for a long time. She has always loved our beloved stallion Jessie’s Neat Dan. Breeding season is starting to finish up for us. We lost a couple weeks due to the fires and missed a few mares. Thankfully 2 of the mares we were in the middle of breeding when we evacuated, caught! We figured we missed them but after scanning them they both are pregnant. Right now our days are filled with live covering, AI and scanning… only a handful of mares left.

Good morning everyone!
We’ll it’s been a crazy couple weeks that we will never forget. I want to apologize for not keeping everyone updated with our foals and how the season has been going… Unfortunately we were dealing with the wildfires in our area. One was getting way to close to us. Last Sunday, on mothers day we made the decision to move our stallions out to safety. This was a precaution, as things were changing. We didn’t want to worry about needing to move them in the mix with everyone else if we did evacuate. Then by Monday late afternoon we decided to get all our horses out as the fire has broke over the top of
the Peace River banks, directly across from us. Our ranch is located above the Peace River, about a mile from the banks. Sitting directly on top of the Montney River valley where it meets the Peace. With the direction the wind was blowing it wouldn’t take much and we could of been in trouble. By late Monday evening there wasn’t a horse left on the ranch thanks to amazing family and friends who showed up with their trailers ready to help. When we were done, it was eerily quiet on the ranch with ashes coming down and thick smoke. We really didn’t know what the next 24hours would bring for us. Thankfully over the next couple days the wind changed, water bombers moved into the river valley and they were able to get things under control. We brought everyone home Thursday and Friday. We were supposed to get a decent amount of rain over the weekend… Thank goodness we got the rain! It started Saturday evening and stayed till Tuesday morning!! I’ve never been so happy to do chores in the mud!!! What an crazy emotional week it’s been for us. Looking forward to getting back on track with everything.
