Heat Warning! 🥵

Be careful of those toe beans! Their paws can literally burn on walks if the road's too hot.

☀️ Make sure your dog has access to clean water at all times. Carry water and a bowl with you on walks.

☀️ Watch your pet for signs of over-heating, including heavy panting and loss of energy. If you recognise these signs when on a walk, stop, find a shady spot and give your dog

☀️ Never leave your dog (or any pet) alone in a car, even with the windows open

☀️ Make cooling tasty treats by making ice cubes with your dog’s favourite food inside or stuff a Kong and pop it in the freezer

☀️ Be particularly careful with short nosed dogs such as bull breeds, boxers, pugs, older dogs, and those that are overweight. These dogs can get heatstroke simply by running around

Please avoid taking your dogs out in the scorching heat today. Schedule walks for early morning or later at night. Keep safe everyone! ☀️❤️

Today is National Indigenous Peoples Day!

As much as today is a day to recognize the beautiful artworks or ceremony of the Indigenous Peoples, today is also an opportunity to recognize the resiliency and strength it took to keep these cultures and these peoples alive.

It is our jobs to educate ourselves on how to be a proper ally, and learn the harsh historical and contemporary realities of Indigenous Peoples to acknowledge the adversities they faced and have overcome.

In 2017, today's celebration has been renamed to "National Indigenous Peoples Day" from National Aboriginal Day to be in lone with the United Nations use of the word in international discussions. There is so much to learn and it is still not anperfect term but maybe, we start from here—use "Indigenous Peoples" instead of Aboriginals.

Fun Fact: It is believed that "Mississauga" is an Ojibwa word meaning "river of many mouths". And we have the Anishinaabe peoples (came to be known as the Mississaugas of the Credit) to thank for for this name. 💙
