Our Doggies Cottage in the City Story

We decided to open day care and boarding for dogs because we love their company. Dogs of all breeds and age are so different from each other. Each one has its own personality, likes, fears yet they bond together in a pack. We’ve both had dogs since our respective early ages, cared for them, watched them grow older then depart to doggies heaven. When we bought our current house our priority was safety and security and space. Gabby is a kijiji rescue - she is street smart, alpha and human dependent. When she developed separation anxiety we found Harry on kijiji for her - he is the aristocrat; gentle, independent, scared of elements and phobic - he hates his paws touched. Both of them have most human rights - run of the house, sleeping on furniture, cuddling when they want it. We have a doggie door installed at the side door so they can go outside at their convenience.

They are getting on with their age ( 6 and 7 yo). They love company therefore why not open our cottage in the city to other city dogs dwellers. We care about dogs hence the idea of welcoming them into our adobe. In warmer months there is plenty of room to roam, chasing squirrels, exploring within fenced property. We also offer birds watching, chasing other creatures such as groundhogs, opossums and racoons - all of them are smart enough to avoid being caught. We have a smaller pet pool/kiddie pool. There is also a human swimming pool in the backyard and it is shared with Gabby who taught herself to climb the ladder and I am sure she would not mind sharing it. In never ending Ontario winter pool is securely closed and still there is plenty of running outside in the snow. We check paws for snow discomfort.

One of us is always at home to supervise. Our limit is 2 extra dogs. We believe in proper introduction, snuffing, shaking paws, no display of hostility. Our guests need to be neutered and vaccinated. Pups under 4 month old don’t need to be neutered.

We feed our dogs Blue Buffalo. Dogs are territorial. Your dog needs to have its own food and he/she will get separate space for a bowl. This is the only area of conflict which will be separated by an indoor fence. Water is fresh and communal - non problematic. We usually fill canisters of city water and leave it for a day for chlorine to evaporate.
