Olympus K9

Olympus K9 Under construction. Olympus Dog Training was founded in 1980 by Pando and Chris Stepanis. We started out as helping pet owners with behaviour concerns. Post 9/11.
(11)

This quickly led to the formation of Olympus Security & Investigations. Olympus K9 division expanded to become one of the top three largest K9 Security providers in Canada. Olympus has become the "go to"company for consultation regarding K9 service protocols to other security firms. During all this growth in the security field, Olympus still continued to provide training services to the general pu

blic. At this time Pando Stepanis started participating more and more in the sport of Schutzhund , later becoming President and Training Director of Saugeen Schutzhund Club of Ontario, which he is currently active. As President and Training Director, Pando led many of his club members to represent Team Canada at the WUSV World Championships. Over the years, Olympus has and continues to network with the world's leaders in K9 competition, law enforcement, breeders, judges, trainers, etc. In 1990 Olympus opened its' 90 acre training facility which houses Olympus Dog Training Academy. This facility offers two full Schutzhund fields, fully equipped for night training. An indoor training facility and two large kennel buildings housing our dogs. We have indoor and outdoor runs with full climate control and trained knowledgeable staff caring for our dogs every need. Olympus recognized the need to further expand into the greater demand for Detection Dogs. Olympus is one of the few security firms to be recognized and licensed by Health Canada - Narcotic Training, Ministry of Natural Resources - Explosives Division, and Ministry of the Solicitor General - Community Safety & Correctional Services - Policing Division. Olympus has stood the test of time - commitment to the industry with unmatched credentials. You owe it to yourself, your family, and your pet. Come for a visit and see the Olympus difference for yourself.

Olympus K9 is excited to have Karin Apfel on board teaching Rally Obedience! Come join us on Thursday July 8th at 6:00 pm to see a demo and to get more information first hand from Karin.

Rally obedience (also known as Rally or Rally-O) is a dog sport based on competition obedience. It was originally devised the obedience practice of "doodling" — doing a variety of interesting warmup and freestyle exercises. The doodles were usually parts of obedience exercises that taught the skills and improved performance and accuracy. Some of the beginner exercises include: circles (360 or 270 degrees), position changes while in heel, fronts and finishes, left and right turns, and holding a position while you walk around them. The heeling between stations is also judged.

Unlike regular obedience, instead of waiting for the judge's orders, the competitors proceed around a course of designated stations with the dog in heel position. The course consists of 10 to 20 signs that instruct the team what to do. Unlike traditional obedience, handlers are allowed to encourage their dogs during the course.
In Canada you can compete in Rally either with the Canadian Kennel Club (CKC) or through the Canadian Association of Rally Obedience CARO). It is also a fun way to introduce young or sensitive dogs to ring work because it is less formal than traditional obedience. You can talk to your dog and in CARO at the Novice level you can use food rewards at a few specific stations.

Karin Apfel has trained and titled multiple dogs in the sport of Rally Obedience and her current young dog just achieved the CARO Novice Title with scores of 194, 196 and 199 (out of 200). Below is his third run from a few weeks ago.
