This boy was super cool to work with! He has a head tilt in his cervical spine. Gentle cervical rocks and playing with the physio surefoot pad helped him to find better alignment in his neck. The days after his session he has been exploring his new range of motion with some periods of straightness. 🥰

Words carry vibrations
My two least favorite word that I hear all the time when describing performance issues in horses are "fixed" and "broken"
I hope you never hear these words come out of my mouth when I am talking about a patient.
I believe in the infinite potential of all beings with all states being relative to that potential

Getting to work with this horse was so special. He was diagnosed to be "neurological" when tacked up. After working with this boy his owner had one of her best rides on him 🥹

Nerve compressions in horses can cause many different symptoms, some that we can't even explain. I feel so privileged to be this horse's last hope. 🌹

If you feel your horse may be suffering from Nerve Compressions please PM or email me to set up a session 💜

People often wonder why their horses aren’t building muscle- they’ve tried all the feeds and supplements, they blame it on the breed, genetics or discipline of the horse.

The reality is.. the relationship between tension and muscle wastage is interrelated.

Damage or trauma to tissue has an effect on nerves. The neuromuscular system requires healthy functioning nerves and motor neurons to help grow muscle. So there is a neurological component that prevents muscle from building in the body.

So how does damage to the nerves occur?

Some common reasons:
👉TENSION- tension in the body can cause fascia to compress down onto these nerves- which can prevent muscle growth.
👉TRAUMA- blunt force, harsh movements, lacerations etc. damaging the nerves themselves.
👉STRESS- studies have shown that stress affects neuron health.

——

Additionally, muscle wastage and atrophy is not the same as an unfit horse. An unfit horse is from lack of conditioning or exercise.

Muscle wastage and atrophy is from neuromuscular dysfunction that prevents the horse from building muscle.

To sum up- if the horse is experiencing or has experienced neuromuscular trauma from:
👉Saddle fit
👉Training techniques
👉Chronic tension throughout the body
Etc.

They will continue to struggle in developing muscle. You need to get rid of the catalyst (whatever is causing the stress, tension or trauma) and then address/release the tension throughout the tissue BEFORE you can expect the horse to build muscle.

Yearling Glow Up!

Even babies need support with their bodies early on as they experiance big shifts in their development and continue to grow. Helping them to grow into a balanced body is so important for later on development, setting them up for success.

This cutie had a deep processing phase during our session followed by a massive back rounding stretch. Incorporating all the lovely shifts and changes throughout her body 🩷

When your horse extends through their AO joint [the articulation between the base of the skull and C1], their lower jaw retracts - you can feel this yourself if you point your nose to the sky, notice how your bottom jaw glides back.

When your horse flexes through their AO joint, their lower jaw protracts - you can feel this yourself if you press your chin to your chest, notice how your bottom jaw glides forwards.

When your horse flexes through their AO joint, their laryngeal diameter decreases - you can feel this by pressing your chin to your chest and taking a deep breath in, notice how much harder that is.

If your horse has tension in their jaw, they lose range of motion through their AO joint - you can feel this yourself if you clamp your jaw shut, notice how much harder it is to point your nose to the sky or point your chin to your chest - your neck feels tight and immobile.

And the same can be said if your horse has tension through their AO joint or neck, they will lose range of motion through their jaw.

-

Now do all of those movements again and notice how, when you drop your chin to your chest:

It's difficult to inflate your ribs to breathe,

It's hard to round your back,

Your hips tighten up.

This is because you've impinged your deep ventral line.

We do this to horses when we ride with a rein length/tension that doesn't accomodate and support their anatomy.

So if we compress their jaw and neck, we compromise their ability to:

Breathe

Lift their back to carry a rider

Activate their hindlimb.
..Gives us quite a lot to think about with how many horses are ridden and trained, doesn't it?

When the clients are super happy with the results 🥰

Cece had a tendency to always stand with her hind leg kicked out to the side. Working on her full body with a Nerve Release Session helped correct that for her.

A few days later and she's continuing to stand with both hind feet straight and in front of her!
