Welcome to our second annual Doggy Dip! Countdown is on! 1 month away!

Oshawa Animal Services in partnership with our Recreation Services are coming together to bring you Doggy Dip! A fun and interactive evening with your dog swimming at Camp Samac! REN'S PETS will be on-site with giveaways and coupons! Every registered participant will receive a mystery voucher from our sponsor Ren’s Pets, ranging from $10 to $250 and more!

Come join us and let your fur friend have an evening dip!

Today we had a special visitor. Unfortunately the fawn had some injuries but we called amazing people at Shades of Hope Wildlife Refuge for help! ❤️

Thanks to the caring pedestrian who spotted the fawn! Thank you to our City of Oshawa - Municipal Government By-law Deptartment for picking up the fawn.

Thank you to our shelter team who sprung into action being sure the deer was kept in a quiet area while we found help. ❤️

Thank you to Team Chelsea lost pet search group for finding a volunteer driver.

And a huge thank you to Shades of Hope Wildlife Refuge for taking this sweet one in. ❤️

It surely takes a village. 🤗

We wish the Fawn the very best in recovery and we are hoping it does well. ❤️🤞

I had the pleasure of spending a doggy day out with Elmer today. We went hiking on the trails by the Oshawa Creek just east of the airport for a couple of hours and also spent a couple of hours in the backyard cooling off on such a hot day.

Elmer is a sweet, friendly fellow who, despite his age of 8 years, is very energetic and inquisitive. Being a Coonhound mix, he has a tremendous nose and exploratory instincts so he spent his time 'on the job', following scents wherever they took him, over hill, over dale, through the creek and woods. Due to this, Elmer should not be off-leash unless he's in a well-fenced enclosed area, the larger, the better for this active dog.

He can be stubborn. In his mind, he's following a scent and it leads in one direction. So patience and persuasiveness are needed if you wish to walk in a different direction or get him back in the car.

He travels well in the car, usually lying down. In fact, by the end of the day, he was finally tired and content to nap.

Elmer loves belly rubs, head pets and rubs behind the ears. He loves his kibble and is a gentle treat taker.

Hope this helps Elmer find his forever home.

Doggy Day Out with Rita! ❤️🐶

I can't say enough good things about Rita. We took her to the lake. Shes loved everyone she met, children included. She didn't care about the other dogs even when a little Pekingese was barking at her she just walked by, which by the way is at an amazing pace without pulling.

She's really great in the car, completely comfortable and relaxes. She sits and does paw and takes treats super gentle. We took her back to my place we hung out in the yard. She was such a good girl and listened so well I brought her inside to cool off. She relaxed and couch cuddled. She surprised me when she jumped off the couch and gave me the 'I gotta go outside stare' and boy did she. 3 times. And each time she came back inside she has a happy dance with a butt wiggle and bounce. I'd say definitely has house training down. She's an absolute gem!

Here are some photos of Bramwell's Day Out! 🐶

He loved his walks at Long Sault and Lakeview Park and didn't mind all the rain we got. He was good on his leash and listens to instructions. He was happy to be out and about walking and exploring. Bramwell sat nicely on the patio while we ate our lunch. He is very well behaved in the car, he even took a nap in it. He met a few people at Little Beasts Brewery and they couldn't get over how beautiful and friendly he was. He loves a good back/butt scratch.

Bramwell is patiently waiting for his home. He was adopted for a very short time and it wasn't a fit. He has to be the calmest husky we have ever had here 😂

Herc is still looking for a home! ❤️

Herc got to join his foster for a few adventures! Walks in the park and neighbourhood were a blast!

His feet are huge, so we anticipate he will be a very big boy!

Herc is on a search for a home where this lovable boy can soak up all the love. He is going to be a very large so will need continued encouragement training to walk like a gentleman! So far so good on the walking skills! He's doing fantastic!

He is a very sweet boy, but can get a little mouthy with younger kiddos when he gets overly excited. Continued training and kids his size or bigger would be best!

🐶He does well with other dogs, and would do great with another dog at home!

Kitties? Well those are fun to chases so ideally no kitties 🐱

Introducing Lee, and her babies! (Darla and Tank!)

Lee and her little ones have been in an amazing foster soaking up all the love and attention and we are excited for this group to hit the adoption floor!

🐶Momma Lee, 3 years old, English Bulldog

A little about Momma; Waddles, snuggles and the cutest bottom lip! Her foster described her as the sweetest thing! We can't wait for this girl to find her forever home. While with us she doesn't seem to be phased by dogs, but we will be sure to do a meet and greet to make sure she loves her potential canine friend! We would recommend a dog her size or bigger. As for kitties, kitty free home please!

Cat adoption update! 🧀

Came to update about the excellent Cheese! He has become enormous! It's wonderful! His tail is like a giant feather now and he has learned to keep away from the fish tank after an exciting swimming lesson 🤣 He is very much the orange-boi and he makes us laugh every day. He still begs to cuddle and makes muffins when he's sleepy, we love him so much. Anyway, here he is this morning looking cute in his tower. He was watching the birds outside, waiting for his morning can of wet food, spoiled monster that he is lol!

Introducing this sweet feline, Jinxi!

Jinxi came to us when he was found alone after his owner passed away. We are happy we could be a soft place to land for him.

❤️He loves attention and to play with toys!
Although he definitely picks his people, likes some and swats away others 😂

He would do best as a single cat. Right now, we are unsure about how he would do with a dog.

You’ll find him snuggled into his bed or underneath it snoring away 🤪

Doggy day outs are the best❤️

Mouse was adopted but returned within a few days. (And that is ok!) He showed no prey drive in the shelter but quickly got comfortable in his home and chased the cats.

To keep everyone safe, Mouse was brought back to find a better fit 🏡 but they raved on what a wonder dog he is!

Yesterday, Mouse went out for a Dpggy Day Out. Here is what Mouse's day out looked like yesterday!

"I had the privilege of taking Mouse out today. Here is my observations.

He got into my vehicle no problem and was an exceptional passenger. We came home where he toured the house with caution but quickly eased up. During breakfast he showed zero signs of food aggression (took bowl and food away).

He knows sit. We went for a walk where he displayed how excellent he is on leash. Greeted every human and dog with excitement and a wagging tail. He isn't fond of water as we tried both the pool and the river and it was a no go !

We then went shopping for a new toy. Curious to try every single one he patiently backed off when told no. He has no toy aggression and loves tug of war and stuffies.

We finished our day up with a puppuccino and a nap. Mouse is the best behaved dog I've had with Doggy Day Out. He can be a little skittish at times but only shows signs of submission rather than aggression (falls to ground or cowers). That being said this boy is very strong and still learning so he will need an experienced large dog handler who will be consistent with him.
He gives the best hugs and has the SOFTEST ears. This boy will make someone very happy. "

💛Puppy Yoga was a success last week!

Thank you to each and every person who came out to support the shelter at puppy yoga, our wonderful volunteer yoga instructor, and of course the puppies who provided the snuggles and laughs!

We raised roughly $2800 towards the extra medical care for animals in our care. 💛

PUPPY YOGA is back for one more week with this current litter, and then it's off to find new homes!

Unwind after a busy week with a puppy yoga class at Oshawa Animal Services while a group of puppies zoom around! The classes will be geared towards beginners, no experience necessary!

🐶 We have 2 days, 4 sessions planned for this week!

The sessions will be 45 minutes of Yoga!

Our boy Snoop is looking for a home! He is 6 years old.

Snoop is currently in foster living the life! His amazing foster has been taking great care of him. When Snoop came in we noticed his skin was red and he appeared to have allergies. After a few vet visits, he's well on his way to looking and doing his best!

Snoop is currently eating Natural Balance Venison and Sweet Potatoe and has been doing fantastic.

Here are somethings his foster had to say about him:

His likes are much longer than his dislikes!
He is a hilarious and sweet boy. He plays with our kids from the moment they all get up until bed time.
Likes: kids, chewing sticks, playing fetch and tug, toys, being with his people, snuggling on the couch, walks, treats.

Doesn’t like: broom and vacuum.. He does have some separation anxiety where he barks and has accidents in the crate if we are all gone. Thankfully as we are home with the kids he has not been in there much. However, he sleeps in his crate at night beside my bed no problem with his little bed inside🥰 I think he would do best with an active family and kids are a bonus for him as he absolutely loves them.

🐶 He's met some dogs and was a little spicy with them, so we will do a meet and greet to see if he chooses his canine friend!

We are looking for a sweet forever- foster for a lovely mother and son bonded pair. They were surrendered back to the shelter through no fault of their own. The family made a very hard decision to surrender after several hospital stays for the kiddo in the home. Increasing levels of asthma and doctors' orders despite their best efforts to keep them, the family had to make the choice to surrender.

That's ok though, they have been back and living quite comfortable in our volunteer room with all the snuggles!

Momma and Baby kitty, aptly named, have lived together their whole lives and are now in their golden years of 15 and 14 years respectively. They would do best in a quiet home with a quiet dog and or a quiet cat. They'd prefer no small kiddos please.

Momma was originally fostered (15 years ago!) while pregnant as she was very ill. Baby kitty was the only kitten to survive. Both made a complete recovery, but Baby kitty has a mild case of CH (wobbly cat) as a result. It does not hold him back but he can be a little unstable at times.

We will provide food and care for these love kitties while in foster.

👏 Today a company called Softchoice chose us to spend their company volunteer hours taking our adoptable dogs out for a Doggy day out!

7 dogs were able to leave this morning to venture out, spend the day, and enjoy some amazing company. We can't wait to see what they all do! ☀️
