Another way to beat the boredom is through exercise and training. These are great tools to use before and after the period they will be left alone. Many may think exercise is just physical stimulation, but you can also switch up a few things to stimulate their mind 🧠 Changing the route or place you take them can expose them to new smells, sights, and sounds. Running & hiking also makes them pay more attention to you and their surroundings, making it more of a challenge. If you are up for it, working through basic training to advanced and even agility can also be a great way to tire them out physically and mentally. These are great ways to help our beloved family members sleep through our absence.

You may be met with torn-up cushions and p*e puddles on the floor since routines have changed with the new season and back to school, but we have a few more tricks to help. Another way to beat the boredom and prevent the anxious behaviour is through pheromones. Pheromone diffusers and sprays mimic the natural chemicals released by pets and help stimulate a positive response, which reduces unwanted behaviours. It helps them relax and feel that they are in a safe space. They can also feel relaxed through background noise, like leaving the radio on or using products like the Snuggle Puppy that mimics a heartbeat so they do not feel alone 💓 It can result in a calmer, more peaceful pet with less feelings of fear, loneliness and anxiety.

During this adjustment period, many pet parents are not around as much, and our pets' boredom can manifest in many ways like howling and destructive behaviour 😩 One way we can curb these anxious symptoms is through interactive toys like puzzles, mats, and food-stuffed toys. Not only do these act as a distraction, but they help reduce feelings of anxiety and are a great mental stimulation tool. Many dogs need to be mentally exhausted to relax and feel truly tired 😴 The best part is there are so many options and treat combinations to try out. Having a few to rotate through will also keep up the challenge for those super-savvy pets.
