We have just been informed that the Veterinary Specialty Center (VSC) in St. John's does not have orthopedic surgery available for the time being. We wish them the best of luck in finding a new surgeon and are ready to help the families of NL in any way we can. If you have a furry family member with an orthopedic issue (cruciate tear, ligament or tendon injuries, joint instability, etc), please ask your vet about sending us a referral. Bracing is not a magical solution (nothing is), but it can be very effective as a treatment method or a temporary measure to stabilize an injury while waiting for surgery.

Hi everyone,
Just a FYI, Kennel cough is rampant right now, and it's gaining in its severity, turning into pneumonia, which can be deadly for a doggo. It's been recommended by vets to avoid dog parks and doggie daycare. Like any vaccine, just because your pup is vaccinated doesn't give them immunity.

*Please rebook your appointment if your puppers is presenting with a cough, weezing, or sneezing. Because of bellas health, she's only partially vaccinated, and they only give her what they deem necessary. I'm not sure if Kennel Cough was one of them, so I'm operating under the assumption she's not.

After 4 months (2 grooming cycles) of no appointment you are no longer considered a client. This excludes dogs that don't require regular grooms ie. Sheppards, husky, goldens.
It's been brought to my attention that several clients are "groomer hopping".

Effective July 1st salon prices will change to reflect today's economy. I haven't increased prices in the 7 years I've been in operation. I have a grooming price list from every legal groomer in NL and will be basing my prices on that list. Some clients will notice little change, some it will be significant. Please know I do not take this decision lightly, however I simply can't afford to continue operating at my current prices. A new price list will be posted later today. Thank you.

📣📣 Registration is now open for the first round of Puppy Preschool classes at our brand NEW training facility, located at 40 O'Leary Ave!! 📣📣

Our Puppy Preschool Program is designed for furry kiddos under 5 months of age. We require all dogs in our group programs to have at least two rounds of vaccines and a dewormer prior to starting. This particular program costs $250+tax and runs for 6 weeks. The class covers essential skills like socialization, confidence building, body awareness, handling and more! We also introduce some basic obedience skills like loose leash walking, staying on cue, reliable recalls, waits, and leave-its! 🐶🐶🐶 The program is jam-packed with information and includes weekly handouts to help keep you accountable with your homework. We keep class sizes small for an optimal learning environment and always have at least one training assistant present to help out wherever needed.

Each year, a number of unfortunate pets are treated for exposure to a variety of different toxic household substances and foods.
While the list of toxins is too numerous to list, the 10 most common for cats & dogs are listed below.

📌The Veterinary Specialty Centre is always open for any emergency situations. They are located at 860 Topsail Road and can be reached at (709) 221-7838.
📌For any animal poison-related emergency, 24 hours a day, 365 days a year, you can call the ASPCA Animal Poison Control Center at 1-888-426-4435.

A microchip is also called an “identifying integrated circuit” – it is a small chip (about the size of a grain of rice) that will bring up a specific number when scanned by the proper type of scanner. Microchips use radio frequency identification technology to communicate with microchip scanners. The ‘chip’ of the microchip is surrounded by glass so your animal is never in contact with the actual ‘chip’.

Vet clinics, animal shelters and municipal animal control facilities usually have scanners capable of reading microchips. When the chip is scanned, the number is matched in a database to determine the owner’s contact information so the pet can be returned.

Just letting everyone know, for the month of December if you no show for your appt I don't have enough time to call and wait for you to come, I'm booked solid. As well, if you cancel or want to change your appt there are no other options until after Christmas.

Sorry to have to make this post:
The amount of No Shows and last minute cancelations the past 2 weeks has been upsetting. When a client does this I'm out that money, what's worse is when the client has 2 dogs, which has happened multiple times. I've lost hundreds of dollars the last 2 weeks! So going forward ALL cancelations with less than 24 hrs notice, and no shows will have to pay 50% of their appointment. Refusal will result in no longer being a client!

Please visit www.spcastjohns.org or our page to view our adoptable animals. We are continuing with contactless adoptions as our shelter remains closed to the public. All regular adoption procedures remain in place for this special, meaning applicants have to be approved before the adoption can be finalized. Please note that no cats will be able to be placed on hold prior to this date.
