I have a client searching for a full or part-bred Newfoundland Pony for a child to ride and learn on. Must be well trained, sane, and sound. Smaller in size would be ideal. Buyer can supply good references. This is a permanent home in NS. Mares or geldings only, no stallions please!

The Newfoundland Pony Society annual general meeting took place on Sunday December 10th. Such a great lineup of speakers!

Where do we start? A quick re-cap of our AGM:

- a big thanks to Rainbow Riders - Therapeutic Riding Newfoundland and Labrador Inc. for allowing us to use their board room. What an exciting place to be with Hudson and Rex on site. Kelly Sandoval Thank you for all your support! ❤️ VOCM Downhome Magazine

- new life! 45-50 NL pony foals were born in 2023 in Canada and US which is wonderful news.

- MLA Craig Pardy attended and we know he will continue to speak on behalf of the endangered NL Pony with Government of Newfoundland and Labrador. This animal is most at risk in its homeland: it needs access to pasture land for grazing and by-laws that are supportive of owners in who keep them.

- Newfoundland & Labrador Tourism Newfoundland ponies belong in our tourism ads. Whales, puffins, icebergs and… yes, ponies. Let’s make 2024 the year that this terrible omission is corrected. Target NL

- Luke Reid, 10 year old, spoke about his love of the pony. He reminds us why we do this: the ponies need to be here for the next generation to enjoy. Samantha J-Reid keep up the great work!

- Korrine from Willow Creek Stables attended and inspired us with her NL pony rescue with 25 ponies in Perth, just outside .

- the Hobbs family and all those working to preserve the pony, thank you.

Look for our holiday news update later this week.

Sharing a picture and quote from Luke Reid. « I have loved horses since I was a baby. »

Equine Community Update - Please Share!

EHV-1 in Nova Scotia

"Charlie" would like to share some welcome news 😉!

As horse owners know, there were recently confirmed cases of EHV-1 in Nova Scotia (1 confirmed, 3 presumptive) which resulted in the loss of some horses and a barn closure in addition to some anxiety and stress.

As a result of many level-headed people in the NS horse community pulling together and making the good choice to stay home and post-pone some events there has been no further spread and no additional cases for at least 3 weeks.

This means the risk of further cases associated with this outbreak is considered low and we should all be thankful and feel comfortable resuming normal activities.

As a matter of good biosecurity and hygiene, newly introduced horses (especially those shipped from long distances) should be isolated for at least 2 weeks from existing horses on a property when bringing new horses in.

Also, maintaining up-to-date vaccination is a good tool to help prevent risk across the horse population.

If you have any questions about how best to prevent the spread of disease, it is always best to contact your equine veterinarian to have that conversation.
