Happy Saturday! Here’s a feel-good story for your weekend -
This fine little gentleman is Oscar and we was just recently rescued from with quite the backstory. Oscar was found in a dumpster, TRIPLE bagged with 3 garbage bags, freezing in his own p*e and with multiple large dog bite wounds. Luckily, he was found in the nick of time and with some warmth and prompt medical attention he survived the terrible ordeal. His new owner has never had a cat before but after seeing him up for adoption and reading his story, she knew he had to come home with her. One evening after work her and her husband drove to the Ponoka area to bring little Oscar home where he belongs. Now, Oscar is thriving! He has the loveliest personality and is so incredibly laid back. We fell in love with him when we saw him recently for a booster vaccine and health exam. His wounds are healed and his fur is just starting to grow back in and we can’t wait to be able to care for him for many years. This little man deserves the world and went to such an amazing home that it makes our hearts sing! We love you Oscar!!!! ❤️❤️❤️
P.S. Yes, he is named Oscar after Oscar the Grouch because of the whole being found in the garbage thing and we think it’s the perfect name for him and love the cheekiness of it 💖😅

We hope everyone has had an amazing start to 2025 - we sure have!
The winner of our Smile For Christmas contest was a lovely little Pomeranian named Derby whom we all absolutely adore. He had a history of terrible dental disease that desperately needed to be addressed but, unfortunately, he has some heart disease that was a complicating factor. Over the course of 2024 we have been working very closely with Derby’s owners to get him to the right medication schedule to best control his blood pressure and heart issues. After months and months of rechecks and medication dosage adjustments, we finally got his blood pressure lowered and stabilized his heart. When we saw the nomination for Derby arrive in our inbox we were absolutely thrilled because at this point the dental disease was contributing to his cardiac issues more and more every day. His owners were absolutely over the moon when we called to give them the exciting news and Derby was brought in by his very nervous dad just after Christmas for his oral transformation. His dental went perfectly, with no anesthetic complications or issues arising during the procedure. As you can see, his teeth were covered in tartar and calculus and upon seeing the x-rays of his mouth, it was very obvious that they all needed to go. Derby recovered from his anesthetic beautifully and went home later that afternoon with an empty mouth and we are so thrilled to report that he has been doing so wonderfully since! His owners have reported to us that he is no longer coughing, he’s eating very happily, and that he’s been extra playful since we removed those nasty teeth. We love you Derby! 🥰🥰

Merry Christmas from the Barrett Veterinary Practice team! 🎄❤️ We hope each and every one of you have a fabulous Christmas filled with family, love, and sunshine. Thank you to all of you and your lovely critters in our BVP family who made this year so amazing and fun - all of you make everyday fun for us.

This year our team had the opportunity to attend a wreath making workshop at for our Christmas party and it was a blast! Plus, we all had perfectly personal wreaths to hang on our doors and spread some holiday cheer. Thank you so much Tricia for hosting us and showing us how to create these beautiful wreaths and for creating such a fun atmosphere and experience!
