Redwood Meadows Wolf Dr Boil Water Advisory
A major water line leak was detected affecting sections of Wolf Dr and tributaries. All affected homes will be experiencing a significant depressurization and a precautionary boil water advisory is in place effective immediately. This is only for the affected areas experiencing the depressurization along Wolf DR and NOT Townsite wide. Please stay tuned for further details as they come in. Monitor official Townsite Facebook, Webpage, and App for accurate information. Please share this information with those that you know may be affected.

Dog.Early.Warning.System (DEWS)

Townsite is promoting the DEWS program to residents. In an effort to keep both humans and animals safe, the mission of the DEWS program is to reduce the risk of negative encounters with dogs by establishing a safety system using bandanas in the colors of traffic lights, making it easy for young children to understand. These colors alert oncoming pedestrians and teach the public that no dog should be approached without first asking for permission from the dog’s owner.

Good Morning Redwood,
Off-leash Certification

As previously indicated, the amended Animal Control Bylaw comes into effect on September 15th. This Bylaw will mandate all dogs to be on-leash within the boundaries of the Townsite at all times. However, the Bylaw does afford the opportunity for residents and their dogs to pass a behavioral exam delivered by Townsite recognized third party experts. Upon successful completion of the exam, owners would then be able to have their dogs off-leash on the BERM ONLY.

If you wish to partake in a 4 session training course with your dog finishing with a behavior exam, please contact Kim at Blue Ribbon Kennels. Upon registration, the sessions will be conducted on Wednesday evenings from 1830-1930hrs with a cost of $100.00. During the 1st, 2nd, and 3rd class, the trainer will go over heeling, recall exercises, stays and social skills. On the 4th class, participants and instructor(s) will meet on the berm at which time students will need to show that their dog can approach and pass another dog with good social skills, come to the owner when called, and stay with them when asked. Please contact Kim at [email protected]

For those residents that are interested in directly challenging the exam, Townsite has arranged certified trainers from Dogma Training to attend Redwood Meadows on Saturday, September 12th at 1300hrs to test for the following:
Dogs see each other at distance, owner is able to ask dog to hold a stay, walk 10' away and call them to come
Dogs approach and interact with each other appropriately
Owner is able to call dog to them and walk away with them
If you are interested in this initiative, you must preregister with Townsite by email to [email protected] The cost for this exam is $35.00.

All dogs that successfully pass the exam will be issued a white bandana tag with a number to be worn while on the berm.

Good Afternoon Redwood,
Animal Control Bylaw Update

Thank you to everyone who has engaged Townsite and Council in respectful dialogue regarding proposed changes to the Animal Control Bylaw. Redwood Meadows is committed to providing a safe community for all residents including our four legged companions. Townsite is also committed to being a pet friendly community, which includes incentivizing responsible dog ownership and enforcement of unsafe or irresponsible behaviors. There have been many suggestions, including a petition proposing a compromise for responsible dog owners. As a result of these conversations, a revised proposed Animal Control Bylaw is now available on the website for review. Key changes include:

· All dogs must be on-leash and in control within Townsite boundary.
· An exception process will be available for responsible dog owners who wish to have their dogs off-leash on the berm:

o Owners must have the dog tested and certified through a Townsite approved 3rd party and provide proof of passed examination.
o Certified dogs would be provided with clear identification easily seen by residents.
o Certified dogs would be allowed off-leash on the berm, but must be placed back on-leash prior to entering or exiting the berm.
o Certified dogs will be held to the same standard as on-leash dogs, i.e. must be in full control at all times on the berm, and must not approach another person or pet without explicit permission.
o Certified dogs caught breaching the rules will lose their certification status and the owner liable for applicable fines.

Townsite is actively exploring a certification process including the Canine Good Neighbour program and how Townsite can incentivize responsible pet ownership.
We believe the proposed changes achieve a fair compromise, maintain the safety of all residents, and allow all residents to feel comfortable enjoying Redwood’s wonderful assets, including the berm.

A public consultation session is scheduled for Tuesday, August 11th at Redwood House, 6pm-7pm. Thank you for your continued support and respectful dialogue.
