Hi, my name is Mare, welcome to my page. I have a wide range of animal experience; I’ve helped deliver puppies, nurse orphan kittens, cared for rescue animals, rescued wildlife, volunteered as a Vet’s Assistant and been a pet/farm sitter for years. I practice “Animal Reiki, *The Trust Technique, *Parelli Natural Horsemanship but most of all LOVE to create relationships with every animal I care for

They aren’t called maligators for nothing. Do not get an animal because you saw it in a movie- PLEASE. The movie “Dog” with Channing Tatum i was released earlier this month featuring a highly trained Belgian Malinois. We stand firm that most people should not own this type of breed and anyone interested should do an immense amount of research. This movie took THREE different Belgian Malinois and nine months of training for this movie. A highly trained Malinois is a work of art and can be amazing in the right hands- the right professional hands. We fear that we’ll see an influx of them in shelters soon and that will not go well for the breed. Due to the extreme amount of enrichment/exercise/training needed (think mini raptors), Belgian Malinois deteriorate very quickly in a shelter environment.
If you’ve made the decision to get a Belgian Malinois (and cleared your schedule for the next year of training), please remember that pure bred does not equal good breeding. Don’t help a backyard breeder line their pockets. Ethical Belgian Mal breeders won’t advertise on Facebook, road signs, or Craigslist. And they won’t sell their dogs to probably 90% of the population because not everyone is equipped to handle a dog like that.

I’ve seen others posting about the new Channing Tatum movie “Dog” so I wanted to put my thoughts out there. Every time a dog breed is featured in a film, there is a surge in ownership of that breed, without understanding of what that breed is. Malinois are serious dogs, and need a LOT of training. They are amazing, intelligent, driven dogs, but not for most homes. If you see the movie and think, “ it’d be really cool to have a dog like that,” just don’t. You’ll be in over your head, and with a Mal that can be dangerous. So appreciate them, read books about all the cool stuff they have done in war zones, but don’t think that translates to a dog that is content to sleep on the sofa 22 hours a day. As an example of this I present the photo of 2 kitted out special forces soldiers in training, and the most dangerous weapons these guys are carrying wear basket muzzles.
