If you could pick one magical place to visit this year where would it be? 🌅

This is lake superior at Pancake Bay. The moment your feet touch the sand on this beach you can feel the lake pulling at your soul. It’s majestic, it’s powerful, it’s a damn force to be reckoned with.

I took this picture on our first time here back in 2022 when we decided to buy an rv that we fondly named Chuckwagon (Chuck, after one of our dogs we lost that year) and take the whole fam jam (2 kids + 3 dogs) AND our business on the road for a trip all the way to the coast of BC.

We won’t be taking any big trips this year with our calender filling up but my wanderlust is starting to awaken from its long hibernation and man, it makes me want to go back here. To this moment. To a place that is both sacred for its natural beauty and my own memories we created here. One member of our pack from this picture is no longer with us and he loved this beach and it’s glorious sticks and it’s cold, deep waters probably more than life itself.

Add Superior to your bucket list if you haven’t already. It is a must.

I told her she has to stay, that she’s not allowed to leave. That’s our deal. She has to be with me for the rest of time. I hope she understood me. 💕

Luna is going to be 11 this April, and she’s showing more white around her face, and some days she feels the weather in her joints. I remember the day I got her like it was yesterday. She came after a loss, and I always thought our Dozer sent her to us, because we would never have gotten a third dog at the time. But he had left a hole and our other boy, Bo was lost without him.

I was 24 and I’d never had a dog of my own. I’d had dogs my whole life, family dogs, and Sean had come into my life with his two dogs (which of course became mine too) but she was the first that I chose—Or maybe she chose me.

Sean called me from work one day and told me he had found an add for husky puppies from a local sled dog business. I’ve been obsessed with northern breed dogs since I was a kid, and I couldn’t believe I might actually get the chance to have one.
When I got to the barn they were being kept, there was only 4 puppies left, 3 males from one litter and 1 female from another litter. While the 3 handsome boys wrestled together and ignored me, there was the female trotting around the paddock, digging and exploring, she actually dug a shotgun shell out of the mud and proudly carried to over to me. While she looked less husky and more shepherd, she had this magnetism and I knew she was mine. She was 12 weeks old and smart as a whip.
On our drive to show her to her new daddy, she climbed into my lap and stuck her head out the window before settling into the seat beside me. I remember looking at her and asking her, “What is your name?” And I swear she looked back at me and replied right away with, “Luna.” Her name literally popped into my head instantly and that’s why I say she named herself.

We’ve had that psychic bond ever since. She’s incredibly intuitive and can sense emotions so quickly. She would have made a great therapy dog because she’s a sweetheart and she literally melts to the ground when she meets people. But I guess she has been a therapy dog all along for me. I don’t know what I would do without her. 🐕❤️

These woods are full of ghosts and dreams. Visiting is both restorative and leaves me with a haunting longing for timelines that will never be. I still imagine all my dogs running free here alongside our every adventure. Because they are and will always be a part of me. 💙🐾

This time of year, we start to notice more wildlife signs in our neck of the woods. We don’t typically get deer on our property but we have lots of fox 🦊. We love having wildlife around but the part we don’t enjoy is when the dogs come in smelling like one! Which is exactly what happened today. 😩🤬
Luckily, we don’t have to wash their collars 50 different ways trying to get that smell out and end up just throwing them away! Which is probably the best quality of BioThane gear—it can be washed easily and a little bit of care will keep it looking fresh and new! If only the dogs were that easy the clean! 🐕🐕🧼🧽🫧

Let’s talk martingales.
I think there’s still a stigma surrounding the martingale collar.
Yet, this is one of our best selling products.
When used correctly, it can be a great training tool for most dogs. It can aid in the correction of pulling as well as keep your dog safe if they have a tendency to slip their collar.
The reality is, some dogs need more control than others. A properly fitting martingale will not hurt your dog. (Keeping in mind the size and breed recommendation being medium to large dogs, and obviously not breeds with known trachea issues.) Out of our own 4 dogs, we had 1 that wore a martingale and the difference was night and day! Our martingale boy would pull until he 🤮. But after some training on the martingale, we could actually make it down the road and not look like a couple of crazies! 😅
You won’t find a martingale collar in every pet store, that’s why it’s easy to shop online and get exactly what you need. Sizing matters! So please size your dog for an accurate fit!

Since we lost our heeler mix, Bo, we don’t have a dog in the house who actually likes to play with toys. Sticks are about the only thing that hold this guys interest besides dog on dog play. I kind of miss buying cute toys for my dogs, but I also don’t miss stuffing all over the house! How about your dogs?

Luna will be 11 in a couple months. To us she still feels like a puppy. It’s amazing how time flies and we take it for granted. Dogs offer us a lesson in appreciating every day. 1 day in our life is like a week of a dogs life. Dogs know how to live every day to the fullest. We are so blessed to be able to share our lives with them.

Imbolc is an ancient Celtic holiday celebrating the very first stirrings of new life–the earliest breaths of spring. Even though there may still be snow on the ground, even if it’s freezing cold outside, we are beginning to feel the very earliest hints of spring rising in our spirits. Imbolc brings this final cleansing for our spirits as well. This is the time to clear out the dirty old clutter, and the things that died within us during winter, in order to prepare for the exciting new growth to come.

For us, today marks the 2nd year since we lost our boy, Chucky, and it’s also the birthday of a dear friend who recently passed. Although it’s a hard one, all we can do is be grateful for the memories, and look brightly to the future with hope of brighter things to come. 🕯️✨💙

Jasper National Park 🏔️ Old Fort Point Trail 📍 Jasper is one of our favourite places (that we have been) in Canada! There is so much to discover and its beauty is beyond anything we’ve experienced. If you love adventure, this should be top of your list! It’s the largest national park in the Canadian Rockies with over 11,228 square kilometres (4200 square miles) of mountains, glaciers, alpine meadows, canyons, waterfalls, lakes, ice fields, and wildlife. Don’t leave the dogs behind on this trip! There are many dog-friendly trails (make sure you check first) that offer both you and your bestie the best hiking adventures you can find. Old Fort Point Trail was breathtaking, and there is plenty of room on this trail to allow other hikers to pass if you have reactive dogs. Having your dogs leashed is a rule of the park, so get yourself a long lead to allow your dog a little extra room to explore safely! (Check out our shop for waterproof leads!) This trail is on the top 10 list of trails to hike in Jasper. We did this trail with our 3 dogs, 5 year old, and backpacked our 2 year old. It’s moderate and not too steep or narrow. The perfect trail for families and dogs! 🏞️🐕🐾 Did you know that Canada Parks have placed 200 Adirondack chairs across some of Canada’s most scenic parks? There are 8 locations in Jasper and you just might find a nice comfortable red seat on this hike! 😉 Have you been here?
