Born in 2009, the Global Citizenship Initiative (GCI) is an organization dedicated to encouraging a holistic understanding of global issues, social justice, and active citizenship in Newfoundland and Labrador. During 2010, the GCI has impacted the content of three courses in the K-12 system, has been invited to give input into two other courses in the coming year, and has formed some great ties wi

th other amazing groups dedicated to social change in Newfoundland and Labrador. One of GCI's goasl is to have a course related to social justice and/or civics instated at the senior high level. Effort has also been directed to encouraging more global content at Memorial University and other post-secondary institutions in the province; supporting teachers and students with extracurricular resources and opportunities, and motivating active citizenship at all ages and stages in the province. What the GCI represents is an incredible opportunity to help reshape the way our youth think about global issues, and the potential impact could be enormous. If you are interested in getting involved with GCI, please e-mail us at

and we'll be happy to let you know more!
