No more Pony Jumpers at the Royal. Not really surprised. We had heard rumblings off and on since before Covid but since it was such a well viewed class with lots of cheering spectators, we had hoped it would survive.

What is very surprising to MarBill Hill Farm is the questioning of the U25 classes. As the sponsor of this division across Canada (although not at the Royal), we have had the great privilege of helping to support young upcoming riders in Canada. To see for ourselves how this division has helped focus and inspire riders to consider… maybe making a team one day.

Divisions, like the U25s in particular, were designed to give these riders a chance to compete against similar riders in age & experience; learn a few things & maybe win some $$$ … given the costs of our sport … that always helps.

Bill & I literally got involved with both divisions because it had been identified by EC and our jump committees … that Canada was going to have trouble fielding teams in the future. We did not have a plan to replace our current team riders. No real way to introduce child riders to the world of jumpers before many of them lost the desire to jump big & go fast. We were very behind the rest of the show jumping world … google Irish pony finals and you’ll get the picture.

We totally understand that in some parts of Canada, U25s are not well supported. Do we know why? It is very well supported in Western Canada. Why the difference?

We know that running horse shows, like many things, requires trade offs and concessions. The Royal board is going to make the decisions it needs to bring Eastern Canada the best regional finals possible. We’ve truly enjoyed being part of it. Maybe we’ll be a part of it again in the future.

When we made the decision to get into sponsorship support for our horse shows, MarBill Hill made the very clear choice to support young riders with classes designed for them … to help more of them make it to that next level. And so, just like the Royal, MarBill Hill is going to pause and review how and where our sponsorship money is going.

If we want Canada to have riders to represent us; to be on Nations Cup Teams; to go and win at Young Riders as we have recently been doing … then we need to give riders the opportunities to go, do & learn. MarBill Hill Farm has always supported that and we will continue to anyway we can.

We are very sad to see the Pony Jumpers go but … you know the saying … when a door closes … a window opens. We’ll be looking to help open that window.

Due to zoning regulations in Erin, we have been forced to update our 2024 calendar. We apologize for this change, as we are aware everyone has made plans based on the previous dates. We have also had to adjust a few dates at Caledon to make staffing possible with the changes to Erin dates. We look forward to hosting everyone this summer at both parks!
