Thursday June 9 2022 Shrimp-Blue Bolt
Blue Bolt Shrimp, one of the most stunning shrimps to have in any shrimp setup. Their vibrant colours make them easy to spot in the tank for hours of great observation. They are a Cardinia bee shrimp (meaning they are a dwarf version) from Southern China and so need very specific care.
• pH – 6.2 – 7.5
• Temperature 70 - 80°F
• Grow 1-1.25”
• Live 1 – 2 Years
• Tank Size 5 – 10 gallon
• Diet – Algae, Omnivore
Blue Bolts are very sensitive to small water changes, keep an ammonia kit on hand to monitor you levels on a weekly basis. Your filtration should be a sponge filter, as this is the safest for shrimp. Ideally, keep Blue Bolts with the same and only introduce them to a fully established tank.
At Roger’s Aquatics we keep a great selection of shrimps in stock! We love them too! You can come in and speak to one of our staff about shrimps. If you are new to shrimp keeping or have been loving shrimps for years, we have a shrimps for everyone.

The marble hatchetfish looks as cool as their name sounds. They have a small head with a large hatchet-shaped body. From the Amazon River in South America the marble hatchetfish is a peaceful surface swimming community fish who does best in a school of 6 or more. You will need to keep a lid on your aquarium tanks and hatchetfish are known for jumping, they have been recorded as jumping an astonishing 5 feet! As river dwellers these fish love to have a current in their tank. Provided a current on the surface of your tank for them to swim against and with.
Marble Hatchetfish
• pH – 5.9 – 7
• Temperature 75 - 80°F
• Grow – 1.5 – 2”
• Live – 2 – 5 years
• Diet – Carnivore
• School – 6 or more
Provide tank mates who are peaceful and community oriented with similar water parameters and your hatchetfish will be happiest. Only add marble hatchetfish to a well-established aquarium as they will not acclimate well during the nitrogen cycle.
We now have live plants for your reptiles! Terrarium plants vary in stock so stock by any time to see exactly what we have.
When you use live plants in your reptile terrarium you add healthy benefits for your pet and beauty to the space for both you and your pet. As well, live plants will live in harmony within your bioactive environment with your clean up crews who live there as well. They will benefit from all the nutrients created by your pet and the clean up bugs who live in your bioactive terrarium.
When choosing the plants for your terrarium consider the environment, do you have a high humidity enclosure or a desert type environment with plenty of light? You will need to consider your pet as well; will they nibble on the plants? Uproot them? Choosing non-toxic plants which fit the environment is important.
As most reptile terrariums have high humidity, here is a list of non-toxic high humidity loving plants.
• African Violet
• Spider plant
• Snake plant
• Boston fern
• Pothos
• Bromeliads
• Weeping fig
• Heartleaf philodendron
For the reptile who prefers a more desert environment here are a few options.
• Prickly Pear Cactus
• Haworthia
• Aloe Vera

Deciding on which LED light to get for your tropical fish tank can be a confusing decision at times. With the wide price range, you can be left wondering which one is best? Today, lets talk about Fluval Plant 3.0 LED and Fluval AquaSky.
First, the similarities, both lights come with Bluetooth capabilities, and using the Fluval app the lights are easy and fun to program. Both come in a variety of sizes, 24”, 36”, and 48” to fit any size of tank, with the AquaSky having an additional smaller size of 15”. Both lights are also rated IP67 waterproof. Meaning, they can take splashing and an accidental dunking and keep on working! And both come with a 3-year warranty. A desirable feature to have!
Now for the differences which set them apart. The fluval plant 3.0 LED light is your perfect light for growing plants. With full spectrum flexibility you can give your plants the unique spectrum you create using 6 colour band waves or you can use one of the pre-set options already programmed into the Fluval App. This light will penetrate to a deeper level than many other LED lights giving you excellent lighting for hard to grow plants which like to carpet the bottom. With the fluval plant 3.0 APP you can set it and forget it!
The Fluval AquaSky does contain a selection of red, green, and blue lights, however, they are not in sufficient quantities for plants to truly thrive and grow. This LED light is recommended for both fresh and saltwater aquariums with FISH ONLY. However, what this light lacks in lumens, it more than makes up in fun features! Using your Fluval App, you have a wide range of programmable settings to create your own storm and weather settings. From stormy lighting to dense cloud cover, you can control the look and environment. With sunrise and sunset settings, the aquasky is a light you can set over and over for different looks in your home, or different environments for your fish.
The last item to point out for difference is price. Plant keeping is g

If you are an avid shrimp enthusiast and love to watch them as they go about their day to day shrimp business, at some point you may have asked yourself, just what makes one shrimp a Caridina and the other a Neocaridina? There is a long scientific way to explain this, but for us the easiest way to say it is they just don’t fit!
What we mean is, they are unable to breed together, their parts just physically will not fit. So, this makes them different in no uncertain words. For neocaridinas their reproductive parts are round and flat. In the caridina shrimps they are longer and more slender. This knowledge allows scientists to come to the conclusion that they are either of the neocaridina or caridina shrimp.
As, these differences are not visible to the naked eye, they are minute differences which are seen by extremely close up viewing only, we rely upon scientist who have studied these beautiful shrimp in detail and have come to these conclusions.
As for us at Roger’s Aquatics, we don’t mind if they are Neocaridina or Caridina shrimp, we are fascinated by them all and think they are all beautiful!
We carry Pangea Food for Geckos!
Watermelon
• Made With Over 60% Real Fruits
• Our most popular crested gecko food
• No Seeds, Nuts, Or Seed Meals
• Protein From Whey Isolate and Egg Whites
• Guaranteed to Produce An Enthusiastic Feeding Response!
The Pangea Watermelon Complete Diet is the most popular crested gecko food since 2013 when we first introduced this tasty formula. Great for gargoyle geckos, leachianus, chahoua, day geckos, and all other fruit eating geckos. Developed over the course of many years on one of the world's largest collections of New Caledonian gecko species.
Pangea Complete crested Gecko food uses a combination of fruits that your geckos won't be able to resist. It has been formulated using only the highest quality ingredients, including All Natural USA Dried Fruits, Whey Protein Isolate, Egg, Bee Pollen, Algaes, Probiotics, and more. Our ingredients are selected to contain very low levels of Anti-Nutrients like Oxalates and Phytates. We do not use any seeds, nuts, seed meal, cereal grains or high oxalate fruits or vegetables in this gecko fruit mix.
Fig and Insect
Our new gecko diet formula with the delicious taste of Organic Fig and insects. This Banana free formula has a strong Fig smell and flavor to entice your picky geckos to really chow down. The absence of bananas is perfect for geckos that don't seem to really like banana flavor foods. By using other base fruits we were able to incorporate fig into the diet while still maintaining very low levels of Oxalic acid. We have incorporated crickets and black soldier fly larvae as the main source of protein as well as organically grown mealworms to increase the Omega fatty acid content. This formula has twice the amount of insects as our original "With Insects" formula.
Pangea Fig & Insects mixes up a bit thinner than other formulas due to not having the banana as an ingredient, but the geckos seem to like this thinner mix. It can be more difficult to see lick marks so we recommend
Red and white orandas make a fun addition to your colder water tank! With their bright colours and bobbing bodies they are fun and easy to watch for hours!
Orandas were purpose bred form wild carp sometime in the 15th to 16th century. From eastern Asia, orandas have been revered for their stunning looks and longevity. Contrary to how they look as babies, these fish grow large. Up to 9”! Because of this, a large tank in a must have for red and white orandas. To keep 3 – 5 together you will need a large aquarium, a 50 gallon should be a minimum size to house several to full size. Keep a good layer of round gravel (no sharp edges) and sandy substrates on the bottom as they love to dig and rummage on their tank bottoms.
Your red and white orandas will eat pretty much anything being omnivores. Alternate between flakes, pellets, frozen and freeze-dried foods. You can also offer them a colour enhancing food to keep their red colour brilliantly beautiful!
• pH- 6 – 7
• Temperature 65 - 70° F
• Grow – 8-9”
• Lifespan – 12 – 20 years
• Diet – Omnivore
We have a selection of beautiful red and white orandas in the store now. Stop by and check them out!

Red phantoms are a gorgeous addition to any tank. They mature to an orangey-red colour which stands out in a crowd. Keep a minimum of 5 to create a beautiful red school. Originally from South America, red phantoms are found in the Amazon River tributaries and ponds. These areas are naturally full of vegetation, so consider a well planted aquarium when keeping these fish.
Red phantom tetras are a peaceful and slightly timid fish, they do not like to be kept with aggressive fish who will chase them, instead keep them with other like-minded small tetras and us some friendly cory catfish as bottom cleaners.
Red Phantom Tetra
