Games with Sila after his track

Did a few retrieves, then practiced car cue at different levels of arousal and distance. S**a did great!

Went out for to track and play games this morning. S**a’s track was 533m with 7 corners (there were two short legs) aged 20 minutes and Sila’s track was 194m with one corner aged 24 minutes. They both did very well with their tracks.

ok - finished another course (snuck it in last week) and now am certified as a Grief Coach for Pet Loss. Wasn't quite what i expected but still got some useful information from it and a new idea....and that is the last course I am taking for at least the next year.

Started our day with a 6.7km canicross, dogs did some interior key searches this afternoon and just finished up with my daily challenge. That’s it for today - relaxing evening to end our day.

After scent detection dogs did a couple key searches in the yard then a movement puzzle inside. No walk today but plenty of enrichment.

Yes! All dogs should be muzzle trained - that way if ever needed there is no negative experience with putting one on.

A well constructed and properly fitting muzzle can be a hugely important piece of equipment and all dogs should be accustomed to wearing a muzzle as part of their learning about life.

There are so many reasons why a dog may be wearing a muzzle. And yes, some of them may involve aggressive behaviours. But many dogs we see wearing muzzles are not aggressive at all.

They may be socially sensitive and very defensive around other dogs (while this can result in aggressive type behaviours being seen, it is fear based) and the muzzle is to prevent injury to other dogs who came up to them despite the muzzled dog's clear signals they do not want to interact.

They may be prone to eating things they find that are potentially dangerous to them and so the muzzle is for their own safety - or, as has sadly been the case near where I live, there has been a series of incidents with poisoned food put out in popular dog walking areas.

They may be legally required to wear a muzzle - such as is now the case with XL bully dogs in some countries. This is purely down to their breed and, while there have been a large number of attacks recorded, not every XL bully wearing a muzzle has shown signs of aggression.

Muzzle training is an important life skill for all dogs. If the dog ever finds themselves in a situation where they need to be muzzled, such as emergency veterinary care following an accident or other situation where they may be stressed and in pain, being accustomed to the muzzle takes one layer of stress out of the situation (as well as protecting those providing care for them).

Canicross is the place to start for all mushing sports as you can teach your dog all the necessary cues with your feet firmly planted on the ground, then when you have built up your working relationship and physical conditioning, easily transition to skijoring, bikejoring, scootering, or sledding. Dogs must be over 12 months of age to participate. 1 dog/person. Space is limited
