Since 2008, Virden Pet Network has been helping homeless pets by providing veterinary care, spay-neuter, vaccinations, and any emergency treatment needed. Over the years, we have rescued and found homes for hundreds of pets, mainly cats and kittens, and helped lost and found pets get back home to their families. Our Low Cost Spay Neuter program was created in cooperation with the Virden Animal Hos

pital to greatly reduce the cost of spay-neuter to limited income pet owners. VPN also supports stray cat colonies in neighboring communities by providing resources like Trap-Neuter-Return (TNR), food, and winter shelters. As a foster-based rescue, 95 percent of donated funds go directly towards our mission of helping animals.

This adorable tiny puppy was found all by herself on a rural property near Virden.
Scooped up and taken home by a kind animal lover, she's been fed and nurtured, and introduced to family life.
Age: approx. 3 months
Breed: unknown but possibly some black lab. Longish fur.
Size: very small but eating well. She may stay on the small side as she grows up, hard to predict.
Health: Very good. Hasn't been vetted yet
Personality: Very sweet, good with other dogs, cats and kids.

FOUND CAT, OXFORD ST. VIRDEN

Please share this widely. This girl is spayed and tattooed, she had a home once.
Tattoo indicates she was spayed this year at Virden Animal Hospital.
Maybe her people moved and she got lost in the shuffle. She's now very sick with a URI and eye infection.
Thanks to the young couple on Oxford Street who saved her and called us. (And offered to foster her. So thoughtful)

Announcement:

Given the high number of stray cats which currently outnumber our ability to accept them all into rescue, we are trying something different. A more cooperative approach that involves YOU directly!

If you encounter a stray in our region of SW Manitoba or SE Sask, please contact us. We may not be able to take the cat from you BUT we can:
-Arrange for its spay-neuter and health check.
-Pay the cat's health care costs.
-Try to find it a suitable home if you don't want to keep it as a companion or mouser (no guarantees tho, the demand is almost zero).
-Give guidance on trapping, winter shelters and other stray cat needs.

We ask you to:
-Transport the stray to its vet appointment(s).
-Provide it with a safe place to recuperate for a few days, especially the females.
-Provide food, water and shelter so it can survive outside OR a warm barn OR space in your home. This arrangement will depend on you and the cat!
-Make a voluntary donation to help us pay for it.

This plan has worked for us in the past and we hope it will solve at least some of the stray cat overpopulation in our area.

Still desperately in need of foster homes. It's way easier than you think. It's way more fun than you imagine!

New lady in rescue with VPN: Meet Dusty! Mother to PeeWee (her adorable kitten in our care) and a recent convert to dog lover. Here she is with Maggie, her foster dog sister. The confidence and affection is striking for a cat still getting used to domestic life. If you have a dog or cat or both in your home, Dusty might be a very good choice. She also likes people very much. What a well-rounded personality.

Late last night, Jen and Theresa and friends stayed out in the cold to save this one little life in Melita. Kudos to people like them, everywhere, who pull together for the homeless.

Who has seen the wind and is glad to be out of it? Our new girl in rescue, Scooter!

Update: Road Rash Kitty Her foster mum reports kitty had a good night and an even better morning. She ate a big breakfast and then began cleaning herself up. She's still very stiff and not moving around much. All that's missing is a robust BM (she's so impacted, the vet suspected pregnancy until they did an xray)! Our great foster mum is keeping a close eye on things.
