A new service is being added to PrairiePaw Canine Solutions! Canine Nutrition and Health Consultation! This service can be completed over long distances as well, thanks to technology! I have several years of Canine (and other animal) nutrition experience, something that is not included in a Veterinarians curriculum.

I have aided many clients with their dogs nutrition, food allergies, unknown responses. Lack of nutrition and exposure to specific ingredients can be directly linked to unwanted hyper, lethargic, and other behaviours in your dog. If you would like a reference to a client whom I have helped, please feel to ask!

There are 2 different services available:
-Food allergy/dog food nutritional consultation
-Completely working through a serious health concern, including working with vet blood work/diagnose, food sensitivity and allergy/nutrition assessment.

Both these services includes video time (if long distance to assess the dog's behavior), or if in the Edmonton area, a personal consultation.

PrairiePaw Canine Solutions uses exercise, discipline, and affection to maintain healthy and balanced dogs.

Usually PrairiePaw only works with dogs, but this is an exception (this is my mom's cat)! Meet Ebony! Ebony is an 8 year old, spayed, tattooed and micro-chipped, female. She is looking for a forever home, and needs the requirements: indoors only, will get along with other cats but is timid of dogs (she just runs and hides). She is great with children, but is a bigger cat of 16 lbs! Loves to be brushed and has a thing for cat grass. Ebony is potty trained (yes, on the toilet!!) and does not need a kitty litter! Ebony has been on high quality foods, and is in great health. Reason for rehoming is my mom is moving! $50 Adoption Fee. There is also a large cat tree to go with her (Ebony loves it) which you can buy for $75 as well.

***Lulu has found a new home!!***

Meet Lulu! She is a 3 year old Calahoo/Blue Heeler that is looking for her forever home. Lulu has the potential to be a great farm/animal dog with training. She is fixed and micro-chipped. Lulu has been loved in her previous home, but needs to find her true calling on a farm! She is not good with cats, and is very uncertain around other dogs. Lulu has had a lot of training with obstical courses, and word response training. She picks up on new commands incredibly quick and is very smart. Lulu has not had much of a chance to get to know children, so an experienced dog owner or family with older children would be great for her! The ideal future home would help her gain confidence and reassurance in her new owner. She will become very attached to one person! Potential homes will be personally interviewed by myself, Jenna. If you are for her, a single dog behaviour session will be included with her re-homing to make sure she is on the best track possible (Value: $75). Her adoption fee is $300. Please call 587-987-8810 for more information!

Dear Edmonton and Canada,

To place a breed specific legislation is another form of racism. What's next, puting legislation on large cats? A specific type of horse? What about pet birds that bite. This is sad and rediculous.

As a canine behavoralist, and a pit bull owner, I have witnessed many times people who are unaware of how to correct small behaviors to prevent and fix the negative behaviors. A dog who bites is not a lost cause, as a culture, we need to be educated that this is the case. Many reasons can cause a dog to "go wrong":

- wrong breed or temperment for the owner(s)
- owner(s) unable to recognize behaviors that can cause aggression
- a rescue dog with an unknown past and may have an unknown trigger to bite out of fear
- a working dog who is in a small living enviroment who does not have a "job" or the exercise to keep it mentally healthy
- owner(s) who baby thier dogs (too much) and forget that the dog is infact a dog, no less a member of the family, but an animal who still has natural instincts.

This is just a small list. Sadly, our culture does not include teaching how to read an animal's body language. It is "simply a bad dog or bad owner", which is not always the case. Teaching people to correctly communicate and having a happy, trusting relationship with thier dogs, is one of my truest passions. I hope Edmonton (and rest of Canada) will be open-minded to learning more about Mankind's best friend, and not condemning certain breeds.

All the best,

Jenna

Encouraged by two of my latest clients and their canine companions! Their willingness to understand their dogs, take a balanced and strong alpha position to help the dogs overcome the challenges is very commendable. Here's to a balanced pack! :D
