⚠️ Use Your Head - Wear A Hat ⚠️

Unpopular opinion maybe 🤷‍♀️

I seem to have had lots of conversations recently, with fellow equestrians, regarding safety around horses & several of them were mainly focused on wearing riding hats; or not wearing them!

As an old instructor of mine once said (well, he actually screamed it across the arena, at a girl that was riding without her hat.)
"I don't give a s**t how good you are, or how good you f****** think you are, accidents happen & if you die because you're just too cool to wear helmet, then you'll die looking like a f****** idiot!"
He then spent the remainder of our lesson, telling us various horror storys, all of which ended in the same way ... "No hat, dead rider!"

I don't allow people to ride horses on my yard without wearing a hat...
🙄 Why not???
1️⃣ My insurance becomes void.
2️⃣ Horses can be unpredictable.
3️⃣ You're not immortal.
4️⃣ Increased risk of head injuries.
5️⃣ Blood stains everything.
6️⃣ My anxiety can't deal with it 😬🤣

Did you know... 🤔
🔹More than 70% of equestrian deaths are caused by head & neck injuries.
🔹Horseback riding is the leading cause of sports-related traumatic brain injuries.

Now I'm not saying I've never hopped on a horse without my hat, to fix something or feel something quickly in the middle of a lesson & when I do I hear that instructors words...
Something to think about before you next get on without a riding hat???

🚛🐎LKS Trailer Training🐎🚛

I was once told that my Busta Boy "will never load onto a trailer!"
Thanks to Laura Kitty Stevens / LKS Horse Transport , a little bit of time & patience, a bucket of yumminess & taking out the shavings (Busta still struggles to deal with colour changing ground in stressful situations 🥰) he now loads pretty much straight away every time!

🐎💚 SPIRIT SESSIONS 💚🐎

Lunging session for Spirit yesterday!
First time using side reins for him, so we kept them fairly loose, whilst encouraging him to stretch longer & lower.

To my surprise, he was a little superstar!
He soon started to actually use his back end, working forwards into the contact, stretching through his back & gradually dropping longer and lower 😊🐴

This young man had always dreamed of riding a horse & yesterday, for his 9th birthday surprise, his dream was fulfilled 💙🐎
His dad chose to combine a beginners experience for the birthday boy, with a 1hr hack for the two of them afterwards!

🐎🏆Horse Chester Stables Show🏆🐎

Busta was a busy boy on Saturday competing at Horse Chester Stables 🏅🏅🏅
We all had a great day & it was lovely to see everyone supporting each other 🥰

My little team made me proud as always...

🏇 Amelia's first time competing with Busta & her first ever jumping competition without a leader/someone beside her! Amelia rode beautifully in both of her classes & won 4th place in the poles🏅 Very well done Amelia👏💖
🏇 Maisie's first time ever competing! Her riding has improved so much recently & I just love her determination. Maisie rode a fantastic clear round in the 40cm class, with some awesome turns, to take home 4th place! Super job Maisie, well done you 💞
🏇 Owen rode really well in the dressage & dealt with Busta's slight drama llama moment brilliantly, keeping his cool & carrying on to take 3rd place🥉Busta later redeemed himself in the 40cm class & Owen rode a lovely clear round, to win 2nd place, after only jumping a couple of times before! Very well ridden Owen 💚
🏇 Couldn't remember the last time I had ridden Busta, he is always too busy with other stuff nowadays 🤣 so took the opportunity & actually jumped him myself! Busta enjoyed showing off to his little fan club, winning 3rd place in the 60cm class & 2nd place in the 80cm class 🥉🥈

🐴 Mitey Itchy Boris 🐴

🔸Feather mites are not visible to the naked eye, they make the horse incredibly itchy, causing sores & scabs to form.
🔸The mites are found in the feathers, they live on the surface of the skin & feed on dead skin flakes.
🔸Affected horses will often stamp their feet & chew their lower legs or rub, on any object they can access, to try to relieve the itching.

Boris was suffering with a bad case of mites, when I first met him & his owner, just over a month ago. His owner had bought all sorts of products, that had been recommended to her, to treat the mites & she was becoming frustrated that nothing seemed to be working...
⭐ We began by fully clipping his legs, so that we could see more clearly what was going on underneath all of that hair, followed by a thorough leg wash.
⭐ Then we used pig oil & sulphur to kill the mites: This is an old fashioned method of treatment & prevention that I have used in the past, with many equines & it is yet to fail me. (Studies have also shown a reduction in clinical signs & the absence of mites in horses treated with this solution over a 4 week period.)
⭐ We also used a silver based cream to help heal up any sores.

The huge improvement that we have made in the condition of his legs has made Boris a much more comfortable & happier horse 😊
For now, we will keep his legs clipped, wash them weekly & continue to apply the pig oil & sulphur solution, to prevent the mites from returning!

🦄🌟 YOUNG ONES 🌟🦄

A young girls dream finally brought to light,
A pony as a suprise, so dazzling and bright.

Six months of owning her first ever horse,
Learning every day, both on their course.

A youngster, this fine c**t that she owns,
Ellie's helpful round the yard but often she moans.

A journey they will both take together,
A pony she will remember always & forever.

Already in their short time of learning,
He's been backed, fed & groomed, even had worming.

This relationship is growing through hard work & praise,
Understanding a young soul in thier first days.

As her instructor this duo makes me proud,
Even though sometimes they make me shout loud.

Seeing them bond, learning more & more,
Teaching her foundations, understanding from the core.

Sometimes its hard & sometimes its a test,
Overcoming these issues is what makes us the best.

🐴💚 Bonnie & Spirit 💚🐴

Canter poles, bounces & first attempt at popping 80cm for Bonnie & Spirit this week 🐎
Nine months ago Bonnie only dreamed of being able to ride Spirit & take him on as her own horse but she doubted her abilities & often put herself down 😥
Bonnie started having lessons with me, on Busta, to improve her balance & learn the basics of riding 💕
She soon gained enough confidence to start riding Spirit & her determination is now paying off 🎉 Spirit is not an easy horse to ride & they both still have a lot to learn but I think the progress that they have made over the last couple of months is amazing!
Super excited to continue working with these two & watch them grow from strength to strength 💚💪

💕⭐ Cuteness Overload ⭐💕

Huntley, my little superstar rider, enjoyed his first ride on Busta boy at the weekend 🥰
Romeo joined us in the arena, to watch his pals after Huntley insisted on him being there, he loved watching them trot round rather than having to trot round himself!
Huntley's little sister, the gorgeous Reina, had her first sit on too (held by daddy at all times!)
Looks like our little guy may have himself a new jockey before long 🦄💕
