Cases of E.coli mastitis in cattle vary in severity, from mild self limiting cases, to acute cases of toxic mastitis, which can be fatal. It is an environmental bacteria found in faeces, water sources, bedding and pasture, so addressing cow hygiene and her environmental challenge is important.

Management of cases should involve a vet review to identify the risk factors for infection.

Meet the Team Monday! 🐑
Lauren joined the admin team in 2022. You'll usually find her on the front desk answering the phones and greeting clients at the surgery or running samples in our lab. Lauren grew up in the valleys and was terrified of sheep but now runs her own flock with her partner. When she's not working she enjoys running, attending young farmers events, working her sheep and walking the dogs. She's also a big fan of Christmas and baking!🎄

The World AMR Awareness Week (WAAW) is a global campaign to raise awareness and understanding of AMR and promote best practices among One Health stakeholders to reduce the emergence and spread of drug-resistant infections. WAAW is celebrated from 18-24 November every year.

The theme for 2024 is “Educate. Advocate. Act now.”

BCVA is an established supporter of Farm Vet Champions, a collaborative project, led by RCVS Knowledge, and our friend , to empower farm vets in a united front to tackle antimicrobial resistance (AMR), to improve responsible use of antimicrobials and safeguard their availability.

Unfortunately we couldn't make it to London today but we are fully behind our rural farming community.

Farming is a way of life with a responsibility to provide quality food for the nation. We work with farmers 365 days of the year and share their struggles, successes, highs and lows. The farming community is resilient but now is the time to show our solidarity with farmers to keep British Farming as part of our future.

Meet the Team Monday! 🐄
First up is Eleri Williams, an Approved TB Tester who joined the Farm First team in 2022. Eleri grew up and lives on her family farm in Abergavenny with cattle, sheep, horses and chickens. She enjoys tractor contracting work in her spare time as well as playing hockey, pulling tug of war for Shirenewton and competing in Young Farmers Club competitions.
