Antimicrobial Resistance and the environment
The environment is at risk if antibiotics aren’t disposed of properly. If antibiotics are disposed of inappropriately e.g. via household waste, this can contribute to antimicrobial resistance in the environment o Always return unused or out of date antibiotics to your vet for safe disposal o Antimicrobial resistance is one of the biggest global health issues of our time. What to do if you have leftover or unused antibiotics: o Return them to your vet practice for safe disposal o Inappropriate disposal of unused antibiotics could contribute to antimicrobial resistance and pollute the environment through waterways, affecting our wildlife o Don’t ever give your pet, or any pet for which they haven’t been prescribed, left-over or out of date antibiotics.
