I love this venue with its lovely residential areas, passageways, and underground car parks with grills at street level that really give the dogs something to think about. There’s also a wonderful coffee shop that lets us trail in and out of there and supplies us with coffee, cake and doggy ice cream! The staff are brilliant decoys too!
Some superb line handling crossing roads and having to sometimes stop the dogs. Loads of distractions totally ignored. Body language discussed and future plans made.
Brilliant session and great fun including one of the trail layers being asked if she was a traffic warden.🤣🤣🤣🤣

It was a pleasure to introduce these 2 fantastic teams to the world of Mantrailing.
Sometimes you just know they’re going to be something special and this pair certainly were. The dogs looked like trailing pros after their first trails!

This session was ‘Trust Your Dog’ themed with trails being extra long and aged starting with single blinds and ending in double blinds.
⭐️All the teams smashed them. ⭐️

I’m so excited to add Trail Hunt International to our repertoire!
I spent the most amazing few days with Alexandra Butler (founder) learning the foundations and foundations plus of this exciting sport.
To make things easier we’re going to put all our training on one page so Pawsome Scent Sport will be added too.

Mantrailing will still be going ahead with the addition of the other two sports.

Il be offering a special
Introductory price for the first Trail Hunt International course to include your registration which comes with a progression booklet and an id number.
This would normally cost £25.

The weather was kind to us on this session. Super progression made by all the teams especially an extremely nervous dog who managed to overcome her fears and do some lovely trailing.
Our handsome Dutch herder is gaining confidence every trail and the more experienced teams took scent from novel articles and completed some long trails.
Lovely afternoon, well done everyone.

We had the pleasure of introducing this lovely family to Mantrailing on a mixed experience level session.
You would have never known the clever little spaniel hadn’t trailed before.
She took to it like the proverbial duck to water.
Other teams stretched themselves in different areas and progressed nicely. We had the added bonus of some sunshine.

Lots of challenges set for the teams at this beautiful location. Discussions about different ways dogs trail. Scent taken from different sources using scent transfer and one team attempting a lineup for the first time.

As temperatures are finally rising just a quick reminder that if it’s too hot to trail sessions may be rearranged or cancelled or an alternative offered working on skills in the ‘Dog House’.
If none of these options are suitable for you, a full refund will be provided.

As always the health and safety of both you and your canine companions comes first.

Here’s some useful information for dealing with dogs in the hot weather.
Obviously prevention is better than cure.

Lovely mixture of breeds on our latest session at Umberslade Adventure Park. Dutch Herder, Staffie, Lurcher and an Otterhound.
Great progression made by all especially Fleur the Otterhound on her first progression trail and Billy the Dutch Herder who did his first high find with ease. Shelby the Staffie smashed her aged trail and Archie the lurcher made it all look so easy.
They were all amazing.
Looking forward to coming back to this great venue for more trailing fun next month. 🐾🐾🐾🐾🐾

Super trailing from the teams at this wonderful private venue. Lots of natural distractions which they took in their stride. Scent transfer and novel scent articles. Different areas all with their own challenges all overcome.

We had a fabulous time at our new venue. A smashing new team joined the Mantrailing family and we were delighted to see the return of an old favourite.
Occupiers of the venue couldn’t have been more helpful, even volunteering to trail lay which made it even more challenging for the dogs as their scent was everywhere.
We trailed in and out of buildings, up and down stairs, had high finds and walking trail layers, hand shakes for scent and so much more.
All progressed brilliantly, including the team on their intro (Mom was a bit unprepared for her little pocket rocket taking to it so well and quickly).
Really enjoyable, productive session and icing on the cake, I ended up with a stowaway! 😂

Soggy conditions on the first of our monthly evening sessions at Umberslade Adventure Park but that didn’t dampen the trailers enthusiasm. Some super trailing, novel scent articles, decoys, high finds and walking trail layers for the first time for some of the dogs. They soon got the hang of them ending with some lovely indications.
Looking forward to next month at this wonderful venue that we have the private use of.

Beautiful weather and super trailing at this great venue. Loads of distractions which the dogs coped with brilliantly. Scent taken from novel articles at different heights. In and out of the bar and long aged trails across fields.

I was blown away by the teams on our recent urban trail around Dickens Heath Village.
The lay out makes the scent blow and swirl all over the place. The little passage ways create wind tunnels then the trailers emerge into more open spaces with more swirling scent.
As well as coping with the environmental issues they ignored and trailed through so many distractions, people, cars, dogs enticing smells to name a few.
Line handling was amazing!
Well done everyone.
I love trailing this location and hope to be back here soon so keep your eyes peeled 👀 for future dates.

EVER noticed those slits at the sides of a dog’s nose? Why do dogs have them?

Once again, nature( evolution )proves her elegance in the design of our dogs. When we humans inhale and exhale, air comes in the same way it goes out. Any smells that come in through our mouths are forced out as we exhale. Any alternating of this, is affecting the Dogs naturally ability that evolution has improved on over years. It’s very important that when breed dogs, we work with evolution and not against. They should be fully functional and healthy, as there ancestors.

When a dog exhales through his nose, however, the exhaled air is released through those slits and off to the side so that nice, smelly air going into the dog’s nostrils doesn’t get diluted with the outgoing air. Put another way, the slits allow the dog to avoid smelling what he just exhaled.

The slits help the dog hold scent particles in the nostrils even as exhaled air passing out the slits creates a swirling air turbulence allowing interesting odors to be inhaled directly into the centre of each nostril. Since dogs breathe faster when trying to sniff a certain smell, they widen their nostrils to pull in more air which makes it possible for a dog searching for smells to have a steady stream of air coming in for up to 40 seconds, maybe even longer.

The slits also allow dogs to wiggle each nostril independently which gives them the ability to know which nostril a smell entered. This is how a dog can pinpoint where a smell is coming from, and why a dog searching for smells on the ground will weave back and forth as he follows a trail.

We all know the superb smelling abilities of dogs, but let’s use an analogy between scent and sight to really put it into perspective: What we as humans can see at a third of a mile, our dog can see more than 3,000 miles away and still see as well.
