I would like to do a few shout outs if I may, to thank some amazing people.
Thank you Donna Hudson and Roger for your generous gift of rabbit food. It is much appreciated especially given we now have another hopper to feed.
Thank you also to Charlotte Marsland for your amazing donation of the Vivarium, toys, hide and heat pad. Because of it, we now have a home available for any other animal that may need our help, and there are enough toys to put in the tank we use for the voles that come in.
Thanks also go out to Toula Cross for her thoughtful gift of a material pet carrier. It is suprising the amount of animals who come to use and panic when in a plastic carrier, many prefer a handbag, so this will be much appreciated by all.
Huuuuuge huge gratifying hugs to you all. I am so very grateful and humbled by your kindness. Love all of us here at Pixi's Small Animal Home 🦔🐰🐾

The bunnies are really enjoying some warm nettle and honey tea at the moment. Luna is emptying her bowl. Nettle and honey are both full of antioxidants and boost the immune system. An ideal additive this time of year when the buns may be feeling abit down or low. Like humans, they thrive on vitamin D found in sunlight, which helps with overall physical health and mood. Nettle is full of vitamin D and Iron, thus helping to replenish what they lose out on from lack of sunlight.

So, Clover has been abit off her food lately and has a slight urinary infection. I've been giving her hand feeds to keep her guts healthy and gave her a bath today. On drying her, I discover that the lump on her crooked toe has finally burst to reveal a cyst. I have treated it and wrapped it (that's difficult at the best of times but more so on a dwarf rabbit)
Clover is approximately 12years old and has crooked toes from being in a cage that was too small prior to her coming to me.
Ideally she needs some antibiotics and pain relief (I shall be booking her into the vets today)
If anyone would like to buy one of my items to help me pay towards the cost of her vet bill, I'd really appreciate it.

Hi everyone. I have some very sad news that I have struggled to share.... yesterday while doing the morning checks, I found Sherlock slumped over his bowl, cold and limp, with a horrendous eye infection. We rushed him to the vets. I hoped that with antibiotics we could bring him back, but it was soon apparent that he was dreadfully poorly and his guts had stopped functioning. The vet gave him a 25% chance of surviving if we admitted him for hospitalisation for intense nursing, drips etc, at a cost of £600-£900.
Many of you may know / remember Sherlock as the large bunny whom was destined for a short tragic in a fur farm and then a dog fighting den before I was able to save him. He constantly suffered with eye infections, but it seems this cold spell just worsened it and caused it too spread despite my best efforts.
I had to make the decision to let him go. I feel like a piece of my heart has died with him. He was such a happy bunny. He didn't have a nasty bone in his body. He attended events with me, gave cuddles to children, other animals and he was a proper mommy's boy, always climbing in my lap and licking me. He always knew when people had a banana and would scoff them until he was fit to burst. I loved his chubby cheeks, the feel of his fur against my face and his warm smell. I'm going to miss him so dreadfully much.
I'd appreciate if people could bear with me over next few days. This bunny meant the world to me, and I honestly don't know what i'll do now he's not here.

For anyone who thinks rabbits aren't complex animals and will live with anything or anyone..... this is Luna and Sherlock. They enjoy spending time together, will play, share food, groom one another and even snuggle. But when it comes to living together, the fur quite literally flies.....
Why....? Doe (female) rabbits are territorial, even when spade they can display territorial behaviour and the hutch / house / home becomes her territory, no matter whether it's hers, his or completely brand spanking new, and as far as she's concerned, what she says goes or he can get out. In a communal area like this, those rules don't apply.
Be careful when buying 2 rabbits as hormones and territorial behaviour starts to take effect from 6-10 months of age and can have absolutely dire consequences.

Desmo - this gorgeous chap came with me when I escaped a horrible relationship in Worcester where we were both victims of a rather physically and emotionally abusive man. Desmo was very nervous, especially of men and it has taken 8 years for him to start accepting strangers. He's a cracking cat and is very much a teddy bear. Unfortunately, he suffers terrible with feline cystitis (crystal formation in the urinary tract) and we have to feed him very expensive special veterinary diet food. If anyone ever has any to spare or that they see cheap, we would really appreciate it. Xx

Sadly we had to say goodbye to Flopsy over Christmas. Flopsy was 12 years old and had had hip dysplasia for a good year now which we'd managed with painkillers. I had hoped to raise funds for a wheelchair for him, but due to his struggling to get around, his kidneys had started to give up. He spent his last day snuggled on the sofa with me watching disney movies.

Phoebe is 14years old and very much liked her home comforts. I was asked to have her when my nan fell ill 2 and a half years ago. She's had to have quite a few teeth removed but is a happy soul, especially if you have cream or chicken near by xx

The gorgeous Sherlock
Now 5 years old, this guy was originally bred for his fur. The breeders decided he was no good for this and put him up as a bait animal for dog fighting groups. A group in Dudley used to fight dogs and were looking for rabbits as baiting animals, so as to give new dogs a taste of blood and get them set up for a fight..... fortunately for Sherlock, I had a contact via Facebook with a complete stranger who had gone 'undercover' and infiltrated this particular dog fighting group who knew I took in bunnies and contacted me. I contacted the breeders pretending to be a dog trainer for hunting and sight dogs, and offered more money than what they wanted for sherlock (£15 to be exact) I collected him the same day. My stranger contact did get the fighting group closed down and the dogs were seized.
Last year, I started receiving a few nasty messages and Facebook posts regards a certain person when I asked people to please not photograph my horses.... it turned out to be more than that. He knew the fur breeders of sherlock and while bitching about my poor ponies, he stalked my profile and pages, leading him to find pics and posts of sherlock which he then shared with said fur breeders. Needless to say, they were a tad annoyed to realise I had pulled the wool over their eyes and that the rabbit that was supposed to be a fluffy pom pom or dog bait was in fact very well and happy and very much alive. Not to mention my alerting people to be careful of what they buy as there is an increasing growth of fur trade and dog fighting in Dudley. So began the awful threats. Including that they knew where I kept my horses and next time I saw them they'd 'slash them up and cut their ears off for the dogs' and 'they'd come to my house and burn me and the animals alive'. Though I told the police, they just said it was idle threats and they couldn't act unless the threats turned into actions. That is 1 of the reasons why I deleted my Facebook account, but in doing so I have lost a lot of contacts and income for the animals.
I am telling you all about this, so you understand that giving an animal away is not safe. Dog fighting groups are on our very doorsteps and fur breeders live and deal in animal flesh from a semi detached house. Any pet you 'give away' could be turned into a bait animal or a fur trim.
I also need you help to rebuild my 'rescue' network. I need more sales and cheaper supplies.

About our Animal Home and what we do.

I am an Independent Small Domestic & Wild Animal Sanctuary (Home), taking in primarily Rabbits that have been subjected to abuse and neglect or who may have behavioural and health issues. I also take in other domestic small animals such as Hamsters and Gerbils. The majority of the animals who come to me are unable to be rehomed due to a variety of reasons, therefore I run as a ‘Sanctuary’, where animals can come to find peace, understanding, love and a lifelong home. I will take in, care for and hopefully release, Hedgehogs, Voles and Newts and other small wild animals. Any veterinary fees these animals require while in my care I will pay for myself. If they can’t be returned to the wild for whatever reason, they remain with me for the remainder of their days as an extended member of the family. I am completely independent, meaning I don’t receive government grants or funding, nore do I get any help with feed or veterinary fees. What the average pet owner pays for one animal each week, I try my best to pay for 20+ animals on less than £70 a week, including specialist diets and medications. 100% of the money I make from sales or donations goes directly to the animals (funding food, housing & veterinary fees).

If you need any help or advice, I specialise in rabbit and hamster behaviour and care, contact me any time. Ebay: pixis-small-animal-home Vinted: pixis-animal-home Facebook: Pixi’s Small Animal Home Email: [email protected]
