Say hello to Maisey and Moon, the adorable duo who brightened our day with their sweet purrs! Maisey, the lively one, and Moon, the gentle soul, melted our hearts as we prepped them for their spay. 💙🐾

Found: Young female mixed-breed stray dog in Billingshurst. She has no collar and no microchip. She'll be handed over to the dog warden shortly. Please share to help find her owner!

Stray ginger cat found in the Carbery Lane area behind Pet Practice in Ascot.

Description 👇🏻
Yellowy/Orange eyes and pink nose.
Fairly young - teeth in good condition.
No visible injuries.
A small bald-ish area on the tail.
Has been being fed and cared for by someone for around 4 weeks now.
No microchip.
Photo evidence will be needed for verification.

Rabbits are highly social creatures and need company from other rabbits. Studies have shown they value other rabbits as much as they value food. Single rabbits can often feel more anxious and on alert all the time due to being a prey animal. With bonded friends they can have added security, warmth and relax in their environment. 🐰

It is recommended with a bond pair or group, to have them neutered to lower the risk of aggression and bullying but also unwanted baby bunnies! If you have a single rabbit and plan to get him or her a friend, pairing can take some time, but very well worth the patience and persistence. For more advice on behaviour, bonding, or neutering please speak to one of the nurses are vets in practice.

Sweet treats! Rabbits are just like us and enjoy some naughty treats! In moderation this is ok. Things like bananas, carrots, apples and some types of berries are good for them but too much can make them gain weight or cause tummy upsets. 🍌🥕🍏

Rabbits should mainly be eating fresh grass (or kiln dried grass) and hay. (Bedding hay and eating hay can be different if you want, but make sure always have plenty of eating hay available). Hay is high in fibre, a moderate protein source, with some trace minerals and is low in fat, starch and sugars. Additional benefits to having a hay diet is keeping their teeth in good working order.

This is Bandit, he came into Newbury earlier this month for neutering as he lives with his sister. It is important for bonded rabbits of the opposite s*x to have one, if not both s*xes neutered to avoid unwanted pregnancies, health complications in later life and aggression or bullying which can result in serious injury.

Neutering for males can be done from 10-12 weeks of ages, but we may recommend waiting if too small. Females we typically wait until 4-6months of age as they uterus is too small before this point.
Early neutering is key to preventing unwanted litters. Keep in mind castrated males can potentially get an un-neutered female pregnant 2-6weeks (depending on age) post-surgery. It would be best to keep separated during this recovery period.

Bandit was admitted to hospital for the day, with a packed lunch. We recommend bringing food for your rabbit of their usual diet. It is important remaining eating up to the time of surgery and on recovery, and they often don't like hospital food (who would?!)

Bandit was given injections to protect his tummy and pain relief prior to being anaesthetised. Rabbit anaesthetics have improved greatly in recent years, making them much safer. There is always a risk with any sedation or anaesthetic, which is why we advise a free of charge pre-neutering health check to discuss reasons for neutering and the risks associated.

All our rabbit neuters go home with pain relief and free post operative check-ups with our nurses to ensure healing from surgery and are general well, continuing to eat, drink and pass normal poo!

Go Green! There are many plants that are safe for rabbits to eat which can be found in our gardens and the supermarket. Broccoli, spring greens, parsley, carrot tops and dandelions are very tasty snacks. Leaves from apple or hazel trees and raspberry bushes will be loved too! Do aim to vary what they are given but make sure only small portions of any one plant. 🪴🌱

Rabbits diet should mainly consist of hay at a whopping 85%! With 10% being the leafy greens and only 5% being pellets or nuggets. (About an egg cup full).

Spring is here, and with it comes a surge in seasonal allergies for our furry friends. Itchy, sore skin or ears could be signs of grass and tree pollen allergies.

Our dedicated vets offer a thorough nose-to-tail check-up, including an ear examination with an otoscope. This helps us identify inflammation, ensure the eardrum is intact, and remove any wax, dirt, or pesky grass seeds causing discomfort. While usually painless, severe cases may require additional measures like sedation for a comprehensive exam.

Today is the day to ensure your feline friend's safety! Cat microchipping law is now officially in place.

Don't wait, safeguard your furry companion's future with this simple step.

All cats over 20 weeks must be chipped by June 10th, 2024 (excluding Wales, Scotland, and Northern Ireland). This includes indoor cats too and will benefit them in case of escape.

If your cat has a microchip already remember to keep it updated. Act now to ensure your furry friend's safety! 🐾🐈
