I’m Vitalie, the vet behind Happy Paws Vets. I wanted to take a moment to introduce myself and share a little about what Happy Paws stands for. Here’s a photo of me with our new kitten, Tom, who recently joined our family! He’s already settling in and, like me, is excited for our clinic to open.

Originally from Moldova, a small country nestled between Romania and Ukraine, I qualified as a Veterinary Surgeon from Timisoara University in 2010. Since moving to the UK with my family, I’ve been working in South Wales, where I’ve had the privilege of helping pets across this beautiful region.

Happy Paws was born out of a real need here in the Valleys – a local, approachable, and caring vet that feels like an extension of family.We started as a mobile clinic over a year ago, and we quickly saw how much Aberdare and the surrounding communities needed a practice that treats pets as more than patients. Now, with our new clinic on Lewis Street, we’re excited to create a welcoming, family-run space where your pets are truly valued.

Our mission at Happy Paws is simple: to provide high-quality, heartfelt care in a friendly, relaxed environment. We’re not just another clinic – we’re a small, community-based practice that cares deeply about the pets and people we serve.

Remembering Bailey ❤️

Today, we’re honoring Bailey, a beloved soul who crossed the rainbow bridge recently. Bailey wasn’t just a pet; he was family, a friend, and a constant source of joy and laughter for everyone who knew him.

He had a heart full of adventure and an unwavering love for life. Bailey adored the park and open spaces, always ready for a game of fetch – but only if you threw his favorite ball! He had no time for frisbees, thank you very much. Every walk became a community event, as Bailey would stop for a friendly fuss from every human he passed. His gentle nature drew people to him, and his big heart gave love unconditionally.

Bailey had a mischievous streak that made him even more lovable. His family fondly remembers his puppy days when he somehow managed to reach the back of the counter to grab a box of cornflakes with those long legs and big paws, treating himself to a sneaky snack while they were out! He shared his adventures with his best friend, Cody, his partner in crime and lifelong buddy.

Bailey, you brought so much light and laughter to those around you. You were loved beyond words and will be missed more than you can imagine. Thank you for every wag, every cuddle, and every joyful moment. 🌈💔

In Loving Memory of Kizzy 🐾
Back in Autumn 2015, while working at a vet practice in Barry, I met an elderly lady who brought in her cat for an appointment. Her cat, Kizzy, was a fighter—literally. She had been constantly battling with other cats, and the lady, overwhelmed by the situation, could no longer afford to care for her. She requested that I euthanize Kizzy, believing there was no other option.

After a thorough examination, I discovered Kizzy didn’t have a terminal condition but was suffering from an abscess likely caused by a fight. I couldn’t bring myself to put her to sleep, and after speaking with my wonderful nurses Lisa, Sian, Lucy and Charlie - we decided to find her a new home. The elderly lady signed Kizzy over to the practice, and we began the search.

No one seemed to want her—until Maria, my wife, went downstairs to meet her. It was love at first sight. "This is our cat," she told me, and Kizzy joined our family. She moved with us to our home in Bridgend in May 2016 and became a beloved part of our lives.

Kizzy was a strong, independent spirit. She was a fierce hunter, always bringing Maria "presents," and she guarded her territory with unmatched determination. She never let me forget her strength either—each time she needed a check-up, sedation was the only way to get her to cooperate!

Sadly, after a brave fight with illness, Kizzy crossed the Rainbow Bridge. We’re heartbroken, but we’re grateful for the 9 wonderful years we had with her. She will forever hold a special place in our hearts.

Rest in peace, dear Kizzy. 💔🌈

In a quiet neighbourhood, nestled amidst the gentle rustle of trees and the soft murmur of a flowing stream, there lived a soulful Staffordshire Bull Terrier dog named Mitzi. Her story was one of resilience and redemption, a testament to the transformative power of love and compassion.

Mitzi's journey began in the shadows of cruelty and neglect. Rescued by Louise and her family at the tender age of two, Mitzi bore the scars of a past filled with pain and suffering. Yet, from the moment she stepped into their welcoming home, she knew she was safe. With each passing day, the darkness of her past faded into the distance, replaced by the warm embrace of love and kindness.

Louise, with her two young children Ellie and Thomas, became Mitzi's guardians and her guiding lights. Through patient understanding and unwavering devotion, they helped Mitzi heal the wounds of her past, teaching her that she was worthy of love and affection. Slowly but surely, Mitzi's trust blossomed like a delicate flower in the springtime, her wary gaze softened by the gentle touch of compassion.

As the years passed, Mitzi became an integral part of the family, her presence a source of boundless joy and unconditional love. She reveled in the simple pleasures of life, from playful romps in the backyard to lazy afternoons curled up at Louise's feet. Her playful spirit and infectious enthusiasm brought light and laughter to every corner of their home.

Mitzi's loyalty knew no bounds. She stood as a steadfast guardian, watching over Ellie and Thomas with a watchful eye and a loving heart. Through every triumph and every trial, Mitzi remained by their side, a silent sentinel of strength and support.

But as the seasons changed and time marched on, Mitzi's health began to falter. The spark that once danced in her eyes grew dim, her once agile frame slowed by the weight of age and illness. In the face of her declining health, Louise and her family made the agonizing decision to ease Mitzi's suffering, to bid farewell to their beloved companion with dignity and grace.

Surrounded by the love of her family, Mitzi slipped peacefully into eternal slumber, her weary body finally at rest. Though their hearts were heavy with sorrow, Louise and her family found solace in the knowledge that Mitzi's spirit would forever live on in their cherished memories, a beacon of love and light guiding them through the darkest of days.

And so, as the sun set on Mitzi's earthly journey, her legacy of love and compassion continued to shine brightly, a testament to the enduring power of a bond forged in kindness and nurtured with care. Run free, dear Mitzi, run free, and may your spirit soar among the stars for all eternity ❤️🌈

In a serene home nestled amidst rolling hills and lush greenery, there lived a noble creature named Kally. She was no mere canine, but an elegant 11-year-old Westie cross King Charles, her presence gracing the lives of Kylie and her husband, alongside their cherished children, since her earliest days as a playful puppy.

Kally shared a bond of profound depth with Kylie's husband. Their connection was one of silent understanding and unwavering companionship, a testament to the enduring power of love and loyalty between man and beast.

However, fate cast a shadow over their tranquil abode when Kally was afflicted with lymphoma. Since the chill of December had settled upon the land, her once vigorous spirit began to wane, her noble form succumbing to the cruel grip of illness.

In the face of this somber reality, Kylie and her family displayed a courage born of true nobility. With solemn resolve, they made the solemn decision to bid farewell to Kally within the hallowed halls of their home, surrounded by the dignified presence of their familial love.

On her final day, as the golden rays of sunlight danced upon her silken fur, Kally was bestowed with a final gesture of affection: a simple offering of cheese, her favoured indulgence. As the twilight descended upon the tranquil abode, Kally's breath grew gentle and serene, her noble spirit slipping silently into the embrace of eternity. Enveloped by the tender embrace of her loved ones, she departed this world with the quiet dignity befitting a creature of her noble stature.

And so, in the hushed reverence of their home, Kally passed from this realm to the next, her spirit liberated to roam the boundless expanse of the heavens above. Though their hearts were heavy with grief, Kylie and her family found solace in the knowledge that their beloved companion now frolicked amongst the stars, her essence forever enshrined in the tapestry of their cherished memories.

As they gazed upon the radiant night sky, they whispered a solemn farewell to their beloved Kally, bidding her to run free in the realms beyond. And amidst the celestial symphony of the cosmos, her spirit soared, a luminous beacon of love and grace illuminating the heavens for all eternity. Run free, dear Kally, run free, and may your noble spirit endure forevermore ❤️❤️❤️
